Fixes and issues - an update for members, October 2020

3 minute read time.

People climbing over an obstacle.

In this blog, you’ll find some more updates about issues and fixes on the Community. We’d like to say a huge thank you for your continued support and patience at this time. We’re still working really hard behind the scenes and resolving issues as fast as we can. If you’re continuing to experience problems on the site then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us on community@macmillan.org.uk. We also have our help pages which have step by step guides on using the Community, if you feel you might need some extra support.

Reply button not fully responsive

This is an issue where users are selecting the ‘reply’ button in a thread and the reply box doesn’t always appear. It looks like this:

Where normally, a reply should look like this:

This issue is intermittent, and does not always happen to everyone all the time. The good news is we have a fix for this and it’s currently in testing. We’ll hopefully be able to release this soon.

In the meantime, if you experience this then you can get the reply button to work by selecting ‘reply’ and then ‘cancel’ until the reply button appears as it should.

Replies not showing

This is a problem whereby members are selecting threads which state they have a certain amount of replies, but once they go into the thread, they cannot see any of the replies.

We have identified a fix for this, it’s currently undergoing some testing and we’re hopeful we’ll be able to release this soon.

Email notifications not linking to the correct place

This is an issue specifically to do with email notifications. We have had multiple reports from users who are finding that email notifications aren’t working as they should.

The ‘reply’ button (as pictured below) takes users to the first or last page of the thread they’ve been notified about, instead of to the desired post.

Again, the good news is that this is something which we have identified a fix for – we are awaiting some testing and we are hoping to have this issue resolved soon.

Delay in receiving email notifications

We’ve had multiple reports from users who are receiving email notifications later than they should. In some cases, notifications might be coming through a day or two after the event.

This issue has been escalated and passed on to another team to continue investigations.

Uploading images

Some users are reporting that they cannot see an upload option in some groups when wanting to upload an image. We’ve included a screenshot below of what this looks like.

We have identified a fix for this issue and we need to begin testing before we’re able to release the fix. In the meantime, the Community team have a fix that we can apply to individual accounts. Until we are able to apply a site-wide fix, if you’re having this problem then please do let us know by emailing us on community@macmillan.org.uk and we’ll be able to fix this for you.

We hope to have more updates for you soon and we hope this reassures you that we’re continuing work on the site. If anyone has any questions, or there’s anything you’d like to discuss, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team either by commenting below or emailing us directly.

  • Can you tell me why I no longer receive email updates from reply to any comments or chats I have

  • I’m new and I’m very glad for the site but it is Uber confusing. It would be fab if replies could go under the message you are replying too. It gets out of sync v quickly and is v difficult to follow your “conversations” as they aren’t conversations but random content. Thanks!

  • Hi all,my husband has just been fitted with stoma bag. He had stage 4 cancer and consultant decided to take out all the bowel and fit stoma. What can I say and do to help him with his self asteem and let him know he is still the wonderful man I know and love. . He is 50 years old.

  • I am having difficulty sending a private message. The person I wish to speak to has accepted me as a friend but when I try to send a private message her name wont come up and there is no way of finding it. A very brief message comes up saying 'find recipients' but it is so quick that I can't do anything with it. The recipient's name will also come up briefly but has a circle with a red cross in front of her name before it quickly disappears.

What do I need to do so I can fix this.

    Thanks
