“These lovely people give so much time and reassurance when you really are feeling at your lowest ebb, and most importantly they also give hope!!! I’ve spent the last year on the breast cancer forum and it’s helped me no end. I really feel like I almost know them all by now!!”

Who are the Community Champions?

The Community Champions are a dedicated team of volunteers here in the Community. You can identify a Community Champion on the site as they have the Community Champion bade on their profile which looks like the above image. You read more about Community badges here.

Community Champions are members who found the Community to be really helpful and wanted to give something back. Our Champions offer support and a listening ear. They help new members find their way around the site.

Community Champions also help the Community team to keep the site safe for everyone.

I'm not a moderator I'm what's called a Community Champion. I'm part of a team of volunteers here in the Community who found the Community to be really helpful and wanted to give something back, so we try to offer support and also help new members find their way around the site.”
Community member, Mesothelioma forum

Some of our Community champions have been part of the team for over 9 years and we’ve recently welcomed new Champions to our team this year.

We’re so grateful for the time they all offer the Community.

I remember you from when I used to come on this site shortly after my diagnosis, and I recall the wonderful help, support, reassurance and empathy you freely shared with those who were struggling with their lymphoma/other journey.  Every credit to you for what you do – I see you're a 'champion' – and I'm in luck as you're still here offering assistance!”
Community member, Follicular Lymphoma forum

From the start of this year, our amazing team of Community Champions have answered over 7,734 posts. That shows an incredible amount of kindness and support provided. We’re very grateful for all each one of our Community Champions as they all help keep the Community a supportive space for everyone to access peer support.

Do you feel similar to the following members who have received a lot of support from the Community, and want to give something back?

I got my support from my group on the Macmillan and it was my lifeline. So much so I wanted to give something back and became a Champ."
Community member, Liver cancer forum

“You were the very first person to contact me when I joined the community and encouraged me to think about being a community champ. And look what happened! You were so friendly and kind to me it gave me that push to do it.”
Community member, Womb (uterus) cancer forum

I received so much support & great advice from this group when I was first diagnosed that when I was offered the position of Community Champion it was the ideal opportunity to give a little back to the fantastic service that gave me so much at a time when I felt so scared & lost. I hope you find the support & advice here as helpful as I did.”
Community member, Anal cancer forum
