HI

Less than one minute read time.
Hi, I am new to the site and really not sure what to expect. As I have explained in the 'about me' my Dad was diagnosed with secondary lung cancer yesterday. I have joined the site in hope of being able to talk to people in the same situation as I don't want to burden my parents. I feel they have enough to cope with at the minute. If anyone is in the same boat I would love to here from you. Thanks, Clare x

Hi Claire and welcome to the club no one wants to join.  You will get loads of support on here and you can rant when you need, cry when you need and laugh when you need.  Oh yes mixed in with the tears is laughter although you might not think so right now.   People will try and give you information but most of the time will steer you towards "Ask a nurse" on the front page if it is out of our realms of knowledge.  What you also have to understand is many people may have lung secondaries but everyone will be different in how they are treated how they react to that treatment and how it progresses.

My Husband has secondaries in his lungs and liver. His is a slow growing tumour type that doesn't respond well to radiotheraphy or chemotheraphy.  At the moment he has hardly any symptoms from them and is on no treatment, we just get the checked every 3 to 6 months to see how they are progressing.   He will try a short course of chemo when he feels symptoms or our oncologist thinks he really needs to try. While he feels well he's not bothering.  If your dad has a macmillan nurse talk to them they are not just for him they will help the whole family.

    All the best

    Shelley

Take care and message me whenever you want to. xx
