Visit granted..and well meaning neighbours!

1 minute read time.
Got to visit dad yesterday after all....hooray!! The hospital was still not allowing visitors in, but we were able to meet him in the little garden outside his unit and then sit in the day room for a couple of hours. I think it really cheered him up to see the children - and they were pleased to see him. Amy was very interested in the lines in his chest & asked lots of questions about why he was there and would he be home next time she came to see him! He still looks pretty well, considering. Was relieved to see he didn't look too haggard following his first cycle of treatment. He is suffering a bit with ulcers and a little bleeding in his mouth, but the nurses are on to it and have been giving him something for it. He's definitely tiring quickly now and says he's finding he needs naps throughout the day, but we told him just to listen to his body and if he wanted to sleep..then sleep! Today he is having more platelets to help his blood to clot and has had some codeine for a persisitant headache, but other than that he says he doesn't feel much different to normal. The doctors have told him that his bloods are now 'flat', so hopefully soon his body will begin to pick itself up, an dust itself off!! In a way the ban on visitors has been timely what with dad feeling so tired as it gives mum a couple of days to re-charge her batteries and chill out at home and means that dad doesn't have to worry about feeling he has to stay awake for mum's visit! It also means mum doesn't have to go over how dad is several times over when well-meaning neighbours ring or come over when they know she's back from the hospital! She says it's nice that they care how dad is but could do without it as soon as she walks through the door when all she really wants is a cup of tea, something to eat and some quiet time. She has now taken to unplugging the phone and keeping the blinds down when she doesn't want to be disturbed!

    Hi CLare

Glad to hear you dad is doing ok and that you managed to get the little ones in to see him. Well meaning neighbours can be very trying when you come home after visiting all you want to do is relax. I spend all day with Bert whether he sleeps or not, especially when his bloods are flat as he almost always has infections somewhere and he likes me to be there. He like to see the kids too although our kids are adults so its easier for them.

Hope your dad continues to do so well

    Love Teri
