Today dad had the best birthday present possible....he is now 'officially' in remission!!!!
It was the best news for us all ever and we all found it quite an emotional event...such a HUGE boost after the last couple of months. The doctor said he is very pleased with how well dad has responded to the treatment. The doctors in Cambridge reported that they still feel a bone marrow transplant would be a good route to go down but dad has told his doc that he has no desire to go down that arduous road right now, which his doctor seemed happy to accept.
As you can imagine, dad is on top of the world!! He is still feling tired but is getting well practiced at listening to his body and napping as required, which helps him feel so much better. Have told him to take it slowly & it will come back as the energy levels increase.
So...no more hospitals for now!! He has another appointment to check his bloods next week and to decide if he wants to do a third cycle of chemo that is linked to a trial he opted for. Again that is his decision to make.
After that, I'm not sure what happens...I assume that he will be now regularly tested for any signs of the leukaemia coming back. Hopefully that will not be for a VERY long time.
I can't express just how much this news means to us all....!! xxx
