Positive first day!

Less than one minute read time.
Dad started his chemotherapy at 11 am today. After a chat with the doc he said he felt very calm about it. The first treatment has gone very well with dad feeling no ill effects from the 3 drugs he has been given today. The nurses said that's probably because he is so fit an healthy just now & that had he not got his diagnosis until symptoms were presenting themselves then he may not have been able to have this treatment. It's given him (and all of us) a real boost to find it has not been as bad as he feared it might be. I think we might all sleep a little easier tonight!! Tomorrow he only has to have one of the drugs put in, so hopefully it will be another good day. Taking one day at a time has never been so true! Just come off the phone from talking to him and he sounds really up-beat & jokey ...just like dad, which was lovely. That has made the stress of having to move house today seem insignificant All in all a really positive day - long may it continue.

Your Dad sounds like a positive kinda guy and I can tll you from experience that a positive outlook is one of the best weapons against any illness.

I hope your Dad keeps his spirits up and comes out of this smiling!

Hey glad to hear its good news! my dad was diagnosed with Cancer just before christmas and started his treatment on January the 2nd!He's been quite lucky so far with very few side effects hes having Radio and Chemo at the min to shrink it then surgery to remove it completely. We have named his cancer "Roland" and we are remaining upbeat and havina a laugh which can be hard sometimes but a smile works wonders :D there have been a couple of days where I have gotten angry but they subside back into laughs! if you ever need anyone to talk to drop me a message (as im nt blogging at the min) and I wish you and your family all the best

Thanx for your message - it's really good to get messages from people who REALLY know what this all feels like!  I'm pleased that your dad hasn't had too hard a time of it on the chemo & radiotherapy.  I don't know about you, but when I heard he was going to have chemo I was quite worried about what side effects he would suffer.  We are keeping positive as the odds of the treatment working are good.

Hope I can keep my outlook to all this as strong as you!  And I hope all news is good for your dad & that 'Roland' gets his ass kicked!!!

    Hi Kevin

Thanx for your message.  We are definitely trying to keep our spirits - and dad's - up.  He's been lucky in that he's had few ill effects from the chemo therapy, and we just hope that it continues like this as long as possible.

    Best wishes to you
