Mastectomy;Reconstruction from Buttock.

1 minute read time.

At the moment I wait anxiously for the date of my operation; should of been either last week in Sept or 1st week in October 2010 and had everything organised re husband getting his holidays for this time; now told it will be in October. Had my 6th FEC Chemo back on 26th August and was under the impression that operation was to be 4-6 weeks no later than this. Now find out my breast surgeon will be going on holiday end of September and that another surgeon will need to be matched up with a date alongside the plastic surgeon. It is the planning!!!! Hope I get notified soon, even a call to say there has been a cancellation and they can fit me in.

Don't like this as everything else has went according to plan; and although it is only the 14th September today, my pre-op nerves are getting the better of me. I only hope that the date comes in before the 6th October as cut off point re 6 weeks from last Chemo. My breast Cancer is Grade 2 level 3 Invasive bordering on Inflammatory, Chemo has shrunk the tumour down from 9x7.5 to 6x6.5 and maybe more since the last 2 Chemo sessions, but its still pretty big and from we can gather still a solid mass, though lymph nodes will be removed. I am petrified in case it flares up again at the first chance it gets.

I will be having the reconstruction at the same time and it will be taken from my buttock area and was wondering if anyone else has had this done? I will also have radiotherapy after the operation at some point, followed by an aromitiser tablet for 5 years. (Letrisol?) as I am post menopausal; I will also get something to protect my bones;  then another operation to remove the right breast and reconstruction exactly the same as the left breast. Nipple reconstruction will further follow.  Later on I may need to have my ovaries removed regarding Family history and Genetics regarding risk reducing.

The reality of this next journey is kicking in fast and I am so so scared and anxious at the moment.

Well it is to be Tuesday 28th September. At last but reality is kicking in fast as to how big an operation this is going to be.  Will be under anaesthetic for 10hours: 2 hours for the Full Mastectomy and 8 hours for the reconstruction due to joining blood vessels etc. Will have my own Private Nurse 24 hours for 2/3 days, should get out 4/5 days. Pre-OP nerves getting worse, but had a Family support meeting to relief some of the worries we all had. I will have 2 Professors, 3 Consultants, 3 surgeons and the Full Breast Care Team looking after me.
