Seroma Number 5

Less than one minute read time.
Sounds like Mumbo No 5 if I say it fast - de de dee de de dede! Anyone else had this problem, well not a problem just an inconvenience especially with parking fees at hospitals and having to go weekly to get it drained. My breast care nurse says that its nothing I'm doing. Its faintly disconcerting sloshing around, but I'm obviously just a sloshy person!! .

  • Hi Carol,

My sincere sympathy! I know exactly what you're going through... but I think I only had four (drainage's that it). I didn't know what it was at first except that it hurt, so I tried looking it up on the Internet and scouring all the leaflets I'd been given. I thought it might be lymphoedema, but obviously I was wrong. It was first picked up when I went for my radiotherapy assessment and I was told "it will settle down eventually"... rubbish! The swelling and the pain got so bad I went for an emergency appointment. My darling husband (who secretly thought I was making a fuss about nothing!)  nearly fainted when he saw the pint of fluid drain into the bottle.  Second visit to hospital got rid of another three-quarters of a pint, the third visit was about half a pint, and the fourth visit... a mere dribble of  a quarter of a pint. The seroma developed on the site of lymph gland removal... and yes, eventually, it did settle down, and yours will too.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment.

Oh you poor thing, mine hasn't been painful - just strange and a little uncomfortable.  The first one did stop me sleeping and I had to give myself time to balance everytime I sat up, which was quite funny especially when you wake up and need to dash to the loo!  Thank you for the reassurance that it settles down eventually, I certainly don't want them when I start chemo as the nurse has said there is more risk of infection. I'm getting used to the smell of Tea Tree, it would be nice to smell of something more floral.

    Take care
