Session 11 - 19 remaining

1 minute read time.

After losing the ability to taste on Saturday, I'm glad that I have recovered this sense (around the time of Sunday's roast dinner).

My mouth continues to feel sore inside my cheek and towards the back of my mouth. I had to stop eating raspberries today because the sensation was too painful - so food choices are important.

On the basis that I haven't lost weight so far, I today started a more focussed eating regime. I am having a healthy protein, fruit & veg, limited carb diet with lots of water (water is same as always). I am trying to cut out sugar but have today eaten a fromage frais and 2 x cupcakes with icing on (so that equals a FAIL!!).

I was tired (yes, fatigued) over the weekend and tried to go with what my body asked for. I also had a headache most of Sunday and my painkillers didn't relieve this. I wonder whether the headache was due to treatment, or due to the back massage I had Saturday evening. Either way, I won't be repeating the back massage during treatment.

So far I have not experienced any other symptoms, but am wondering when my taste will disappear again. Maybe the weekends are all about the radiotherapy taking its main effect and then the recovery partially taking place? Let's see next weekend.

Hello Bron, I suffered headaches during RT and like you pain meds did not touch them. Bearing in mind I was taking regular pain relief, I put them down to the treatment. They did stop once I had finished, so I can only think the RT prompted them. Keep strong hun, and keep up the healthy eating xxx

Hello Bron.   You are doing well so keep on counting down those days to the end of treatments ! I wouldn't worry about your weight at all though, so carry on enjoying those cupcakes with icing ... got to keep the nutrition up, eh ? !

Taste buds ... I lost my sense of taste about halfway though my RT and it did take a while to come back, but there again everyone is different and it depends where the target area being zapped is. Oh, a couple of tips about foods, I found that tomato soup really hurt as the RT progressed and also my mashed bananas ... so be careful if you eat any of those items.

I didn't get any headaches so can't help with that one, but mention to the staff when you go again. As far as I know, the weekends off are to let the body recover a little from the RT ... I used to spend them resting and sleeping when the extreme tiredness hit. Stay strong, you'll get there !
