The treatment on Friday was fine.
I tried to keep my eyes open at some points and now understand that the whirring is when the machine is moving to a new position (over my face, or more the right of my head); the beeping is, I think, like a countdown to something (X-rays, or radiotherapy) starting; I don't really know what the humming is. Does this matter even?? Not at all ... it doesn't phase me in the slightest, but I am one of those people who wants to understand the procedure. I remember when I had my orthodontic work done 14 years ago and at the point of my 4-teeth simultaneous extraction, I asked the dentist to explain the sensations I would feel, and the actions he would be performing (pushing, twisting, loosening, pulling, twisting ..... if you're reading this and squeamish, I apologise).
So, I am thinking that I might request to see a copy of my radiotherapy pattern (not the plan, but the one showing where on my face the beams are planned to hit and impact) .... I wonder whether I will be able to see this .... maybe I need to request a copy of all my notes ...... but maybe this isn't included in my notes. Hmmmm, I will ask my Consultant when I see him on Thursday (he wants to talk about my request to double-treat in one day rather than take the Saturday slot they have currently offered, and which impacts on a planned family trip).
Side effects on the day of treatment were not apparent. We have been to London from Friday night until earlier this evening. The weekend was great, the weather was great .... especially for March, our planned activities were all enjoyable (Tower of London, Lion King, Jamie's Fifteen Restaurant, The Museum of London), the hotel was in a great location - not too far from a tube on the Northern Line ..... and of course my husband and Daughter being with me made for a really special weekend.
I've decided that I need things to look forward to throughout my treatment .... restaurants may not be a good idea if my taste takes a battering, but I will find some lovely things to do. I started to wear a scarf over part of my head and the right side of my face .... it looked quite cool with my sunnies. However, it is a lightweight knitted scarf which means it isn't as smooth or lightweight as silk .... so I have needed to (unfortunately ;-) ) begin to purchase beautiful silk scarves ready for our lovely sunny weather.
So, here we go into week 2 !
