Chapter 10 – Chemo Recovery
Slept OK last night; didn’t think I would. I had a bowl next to my bed just in case. Should have taken the steroid slightly earlier as it took me a while to get to sleep! And I actually don’t feel sick – amazingly happy about that. Just have a bit of a headache today, but drinking lots of fluids. Bought some constipation tablets (not needed yet) and ordered my waterproof picc line sleeve for baths and showers.
It is Saturday today, had a catch up on the phone with my sister while my husband took our son for his swimming lesson. They came home for a snack lunch and I have taken my tablets as required and will continue throughout the day. Some housework this afternoon, but mostly been relaxing with Twilight and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe while the boys are visiting IKEA and Toys R Us. Our son is spending his birthday vouchers in Toys R Us today. I am looking forward to Strictly Come Dancing, Casualty and reading in bed later before seeing what Sunday and the rest of the week brings.
Aah injections time! I cannot do it; I have a dreadful fear of needles. I call my doctors surgery but they are not able to fit me in for just 5 minutes. Not impressed, double aah!! I call Acute Oncology and explain. They do it for me the first couple of times, then the third time I do it myself, so I can do the last two at home. Well done me, so proud of myself. Ready for next time.
Chapter 11 – A bit of Normality
I haven’t put pen to paper for a while. I have had some normality lately with two days back at work. Felt very tired but it was really nice to see everyone and occupy the mind.
I enjoyed the October half term holidays with my son. We had a DVD day, went to the cinema to watch The Trolls, followed by lunch at Frankie & Benny’s. My sister came down to see us one day and we went to Gunwharf Quays and took a trip up the Spinnaker Tower. My son was lying on the glass face down, but for my sister and me it was enough of a challenge just to walk on it, but we managed it.
As Daddy is not working Fridays, they went to Bovingdon Tank Museum for the day and I went back to work.
Friday is invoicing and Accounts day, but it was even busier as I had lots to catch up on.
Chapter 12 – A stinking cold
Well I ended my lovely half term week by coming down with a sore throat followed by a stinking cold. Not been at work at all this week. It got to Wednesday, I felt so awful I phoned Acute Oncology and they suggested getting antibiotics from my GP. After a couple of days taking the tablets, come Friday it is slowly clearing up.
Feeling rubbish, prompted me to make a tough but sensible decision, mo more work until treatment is complete. At least my employers now know where they are and won’t be worrying about whether I am coming in today, tomorrow or next week. I too will have less stress and can be part of important groups and therapies.
Chapter 13 – Round 2
As I knew what to expect, this time did not seem as bad as round 1. However there was some self-inflicted sickness as I messed up my steroids by only taking one tablet twice a day instead of two. But easily remedied, I took one of my emergency anti sickness and the steroids on an extra day. Good week was a good week, no colds infecting me.
I feel like getting up and about a bit more this time, which I am pretty sure, is making me feel better.
Chapter 14 – Little Sis’ birthday
We went to see family at the end of my good week, to celebrate my sister’s birthday and early celebration for my husband’s birthday a week later. It was really lovely to see everyone for a change as there was no swimming gala for my niece so all were there at the family meal.
On the Saturday prior I went to watch my team play football, hoping I would not jinx them and ruin their good run. I had lunch in the ground bar with my parents and their footie friends. Luckily their winning streak continued. My boys went up to London for the day we met them back at home later for a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
