New drug

Less than one minute read time.

Hi everyone just felt like I needed to offload, mum started her new drug today called Tarceva! Quite nervous about her going on it, I hope she isn't going to be really ill on it. She waited until after xmas to start it so she didnt feel ill on the day. She is on phase 2 now because her lung cancer has started to grow again! Hopefully the tablet will help to slow it down or possibly reduce it!

Has anyone taken this drug before?

It would have been my grans 66th birthday today but she died in July of lung cancer aswell, crap eh!

On a high note my boyfriend proposed to me on xmas day infront of my family which made my day and I know it did my mum aswell, she is so happy for us, just another thing to perk her up. My second child will be arriving in a couple of months, I just hope mum will be around long enoughto see him.

Hi congratulations on yr engagement!! I'm sure that made yr mums christmas! I go to the hospice and sure that is the drug that my friend is on for lung cancer, they told her last year that she did not have that long, but it put her into semi-remission! All the best for the new year!! xx

Many congrats on your engagement - it sounds very romantic. My dad took Tarceva for a short time but unfortunately he suffered a very severe skin reaction and had to stop. He knows of others who have taken it for months and are stil doing OK, so hope this is the same for your Mum. Best wishes to you all. xx

Hi just thought I'd give an update on the drug Tarceva, mum has had a really bad reaction to the drug, it brought her out in a very servere rash. The doctor grades the rash from 0 to 4, 0 being no rash and 4 being hospitalised, mum was graded at a 3, it was really bad.

The dvd she got given for information before she was given the drug showed a women with a rash and it was no way as bad as mums. Mums face was totally disfigured, it was so swollen all over, especially her nose and was covered in loads of yellow heads, not very attractive. The rash was all in her head, nose, ears, chest, back and was very itchy.

I am so proud of her for sticking with the drug, she was determined to battle through it because she could feel something working on the inside, a lot of her pain had gone which was a major relief to her.

She managed to persuade the doctor last week to give her one more week on the drug because her face was actually getting better (3 weeks after starting the drug).

We are back at the doctors on Tuesday and I do believe he will say she can stay one the drug for the remaining 3-5 weeks as her rash is getting loads better. I am so pleased she stuck at it bless her!

Hope people find this information helpful x
