Did the First Radiation Appointment...

1 minute read time.
So back again.... Auckland District Health Board miraculously found me on their computer system so the first radiation appointment happened this lunchtime. My daughter Muirie took me there... I think maybe because she knew damn well that I wouldn't show up unless she took me. Anyway, now I have done it once, I have promised commitment to seeing through the other 29 appointments. It wasn't actually too bad at all... the first one took a bit longer because they had to make sure that all the data matched up everywhere and I had a heavy interview before... almost had an opportunity to escape hahaha... but I stayed put and was compliant for a change... I think Auckland City staff thought that they were in the twilight zone... Janet being compliant nah doesn't happen. but I was so well behaved maybe I deserve a lollipop or a chocolate fish now it is over for the day. The actual radiation was just three thirty second blasts at different angles which will mean that I will end up with three bald spots and multiple combovers to disguise them. I do have about 1/2 inch of white hair now, but that will all be shaved off when they decide to fnially replace my skull piece and I will have to start again from scratch again. I think that operation is not actually due until April or May once I am off the warfarin and they can arrange a space age bit of fake bone from Australia. I have learnt so much stuff from this experience that I can appreciate as a scientist... I think I will soon know more about Ollies than anyone on the planet. cheers for now Janet

One down 28 to go,only had 5 treatments as I think mine was a precautionary measure, but its ok, yes you lose your hair again, but hay at least there are no more bad hair days you just take it of the stand and pop it on your head, I've suffered a few of the side affects, tiredness nausea etc, but they do improve with time and not everybody gets them so who knows you might be one of the lucky ones. Anyway chin up and keep at it, GOOD LUCK.

Glad to hear from you, I was a bit concerned as you'd been so quiet. So well done for being a good girl. As a special reward I'll drink several glasses of wine tonight and dedicate them to you.

Aren't they going to patch your skull with a bit of stainless steel? I thought that's what they usually used. If it wasn't such a pain in the arse, it would all be quite exciting wouldn't it?

Good luck with the rest of the treatment and I hope if doesn't knock the stuffing out of you too much. Let's know how it all goes.

    Best wishes, Shelagh
