Had a hysteroscopy and polyp removal  today (PMB, ultrasound showed 11-13 mm endometrium) and it's been sent off for biopsy.  I was very concerned about the procedure having read some horror stories on the internet but the consultant promised they'd stop if it got too much. Dutifully took painkillers an hour before as instructed. Three women in the room with me, very experienced nurse carrying out the procedure. I opted not to have gas and air initially but when they found a large polyp I was offered the opportunity to stop and have a GA another day. With a planned holiday I need a diagnosis so said I'd like to go on but with some more pain relief. So was given gas and air,  then injected with local anaesthetic and kept the gas and air. The local was actually the worst part and I rather wished I'd just gone with gas and air. Local anaesthetic has never worked well for me but gas and air is brilliant.

They had to pump in large amounts of water (mopped up with several towels at the end) and I was warned this would mean worse bleeding for 24-48 hours. A 2 - 3 week wait for results but despite my advanced age and risk factors (overweight, pcos, large polyp) I was told 70% chance no further treatment will be needed and 30% chance either progesterone (they like coils, I'll push for tablets if it's that) or hysterectomy.

One of the nurses clearly expected me to be a bit dizzy but I was fine, actually felt better than usual.  Left after a few minutes filling in their feedback questionnaire and drinking a beaker of water. Still feeling more alert than usual although the bleeding is a bit annoying when you thought you'd left that behind years ago.
