Hi I am 54 and in post menopause by 7 year and I never had HRT. I am obese just under 16 stone and have PCOS, no children. I have a neurological condition which has caused disability. I have been experiencing a wet clear discharge for sometime and because I had a UTI a few times in a row I did a PH test in the spring and it showed up as dark green, which indicated BV so I started using gel treatments, five packs, probiotics and it was not going and then around 2 - 4 weeks ago thin stringy discharge started turning pink or just having a bit of pink in it. I noticed a bad smell from it. I don't get blood on my underwear so its not heavy or red.
I went doctor for swab thinking its BV mixed with Virginal atrophy bleeding and got referred to gynaecology and got seen on Monday. I read leaflet and seen the small chance cancer and thickened womb and thought na I wont need a camera. Wrong before I new it I am being told I have a thickened womb and need a camera then a biopsy because doc couldn't see any polyps due to thickening of the womb. I had gas and air and braved it out. I said to the consultant after I just thought I had an infection . I have to wait for 3 weeks and I already have an anxiety disorder where I will go to the extremes. I can't see past results. I was told it could be pre cancerous and I not told anything about Endometrial hyperplasia. I looked that up to try and give me hope its something else, as I do fit that but I know in one type it can heighten the risk of cancer. I had my BV swap results today and they are normal.
If I get a phone call it will be clear
but if I get a letter I have to go in for a proper talk
The wait is it really hard.
Hello AderynC
Welcome to the Womb group.
I understand the waiting is hard and you just want to know.
I think the thing to remember is that you have had some symptoms and you went to get checked out and that was the right thing to do.
The symptoms you have described would normally lead to the hysteroscopy/biopsy and they are normally done on an urgent basis. The purpose of the tests is to rule out cancer. They always try to rule out the most serious potential causes first. The symptoms you describe can have different causes.
Hyperplasia simply means that the endometrium is thicker than it should be.
Some hyperplasia can resolve on its own and would be just monitored. Some hyperplasia can be more concerning as in some ladies, with time could become cancer- in this case treatment may be offered. Only the biopsy can rule out cancer which is why it has been done.
Hopefully you will not have to wait too much longer but in the meantime if talking things through would help, then please do give the Support Line a call.
