Thank you for adding me to the group. I had a hysterectomy (keyhole surgery) weeks ago and have now been referred for radiotherapy. I am a little bit shocked as I thought it was all done now. I feel a bit deflated ….
Hi Boldemee
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear that you have been referred for radiotherapy unexpectedly.
My cancer was in 2022 and my post op results revealed I needed further treatment and I was not expecting it either.
I can understand that you are feeling a bit deflated and I felt the same- it was as if the goal posts had been moved.
Once I actually seen the radiotherapy consultant and knew what was going to happen and when I felt a bit better. I am not sure which radiotherapy you have been referred for but mine was 25 sessions of external beam radiotherapy. Once I had seen the consultant and had the planning appointment then from memory it was around 3 weeks until the treatment started.
If there is anything you want to ask about, please do so. There are many ladies on here who have had radiotherapy and will want to offer you support. Any new treatment can feel daunting but we are here if you need us.

Thank you for your reply - from what the consult said I think it will be internal radiotherapy. I hav e an appointment next week so haven’t had to wait very long. I’m more apprehensive about this than I was about having surgery.
Hi Boldemeeb563, I was predicted grade 1 stage 1a but after my hysterectomy I was restaged to stage 2 which was quite a shock to me. I was advised to have 25 x radiotherapy (external) and 2 x brachytherapy (internal). Apart from the daily grind of going back and forth every day for just over five weeks, it was okay. I had very few side effects from the external radio, and the brachytherapy was a breeze - a doddle in fact. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Hi, thanks for this. mine is grade 1 stage 1b, I had just assumed that once I’d had my surgery that would be the end of it so this came as a bit of a shock.
Hi again, when I was told, I was so shocked, I could barely speak. And then when I managed to ask questions they said I’d need to wait till I had my appointment with my oncologist. I was a bit of a mess until that appointment but my oncologist was wonderful and instilled confidence in me. Do you know yet when it is?
My appt is on Monday - my Consultant didn’t sound concerned and said it was just to protect me.
Same here - mine was described as an insurance policy, as “belt and braces”. Many of us on here have had brachytherapy so if you have any questions just let us know!
