Hello Scotty 142 here it is a long time since I was last on-line regarding my cancer diagnosis and treatment which I completed in summer of 2023, so approximately two years since my cancer journey began.
I have recently been experiencing low down pain on the left side, no other symptoms but I was wondering if I should make contact with the CNS nurse at the hospital where I attended in October 2023. Grateful for any thoughts on this.
thank you.
Hi Scotty142
I am sorry to hear that you have been getting some low down pain on your left side.
This is something that you need to contact your CNS about. It is a new symptom.
It may or may not be connected to your original cancer or treatment but it does need to be investigated further. I would expect your CNS to arrange an appointment for you to come in for a check up and take it from there.
Good Luck
Jane
Hello Scotty 142 here as a result of contacting the cancer specialist nurse at my local hospital I was referred for a CT scan at beg of November to investigate my low down pain on Left side which I had been experiencing. The good news is that there is no sign of recurrent cancer, the C.T scan showed that the bowel has significant diverticular disease. There was also a couple of bubbles of gas seen within the bladder. They could not see clearly on C.T scan any connection between the bowel and bladder.I have since been referred to a General surgeon whom I saw early December at this visit I was advised to do a bowel screening test which I have done and been advised that this is negative, I have now been referred to the Endoscopy unit for further investigation as a day patient. I have been advised that this could be as a result of my radiotherapy. The pain in my left side has settled down. I was wondering if this further investigation is necessary. The C T scan showed no sign of any ongoing inflammation and everything else appeared normal. I would be grateful if you can give me any further advice. Thank you.
Hi Scotty
I am glad that there are no signs of recurrence- great news.
My feeling would be to go ahead with the endoscopy unit testing. Although any testing is not pleasant and can be anxiety provoking- they may as well have a look, check out any diverticular disease and any connection with the radiotherapy treatment. Then if your symptoms do crop up again or cause any further issues- at least you have already had some reassurance.
Jane
Personally I'd take any investigation offered, just for the reassurance. They may also offer you a referral to a dietician or a dietary advice leaflet if you havent already been given one. That will help deal with the diverticular and hopefully the pain wont recur.
