Hi
Are there any ladies on here who are type 2 diabetic and also taking Provera for their endometerial cancer?
How are your blood sugars? Mine have been really low and I am now taking half my Metformin daily dose. I wondered if the Provera
was making my blood sugars low as only been on it for a short while. My Diabetes Nurse doesnt seem to know. On googling it usually makes
yours sugars higher.
Hi, I am type 2 diabetes but don't take Provera. Instead I have the Mirena coil in place - for the last 9 months but it works much like Provera in that it's progesterone treatment.
I have noticed that it's actually harder to regulate my blood glucose now and that's why I started on Metformin around 6 weeks ago. I won't know if it's working until my next A1c test of course - but I think you are right in that mostly, hormone treatment tends to increase BG generally but not that much, so long as you control diet etc....
What stage/grade cancer do you have and how is the hormone treatment going? My treatment with the coil has reduced the womb lining from 14mm - to 4mm, which is normal now. On the biopsy I was advised that the cancer is also regressing but have more tests in a couple of months...
Hi LolaBear
Thank you for replying.
I have a Mirena coil in also since August 2024. As I had Provera introduced on 3rd June just checked my blood glucose monitor can see from 12th June my readings started with a 4. My previous readings usually were 5s or 6s. My latest biopsy in June was good showing hormone and no cancer cells. Havent had my womb measured since intial examination last August.
Trying to lose more weight for a hysterectomy and umbilical hernia operation. Being assessed by my gynaecologist in October and hopefully a few pounds lighter!
Are you hoping to have a hysterectomy in the future?
I was offered a hysterectomy if I lost enough weight but so far I have only lost around a stone and need to lose much more. However, I am at high risk for any type of surgery and have had issues with anaesthetics in the past. I don't really want a hysterectomy and was told that IF I can eradicate the cancer cells for long enough, I may yet be able to have the coil removed and just be monitored. If the cancer returned I guess I would need to have surgery as a last resort but I don't relish the idea. There are so many complications. Things like infection, possible clotting - and prolapse issues. I will take things a step at a time but unlike many women, I don't view hysterectomy as a cure-all. Many women have issues afterwards and it's not a silver bullet IMHO. Are you planning to have surgery ?
