Hi,
I am 49 years & have been diagnosed with womb cancer a few weeks ago & now I’ve had my date confirmed for surgery on the 26th of May.
Just doesn’t feel real, trying to be strong but I am just so scared & worried for the road ahead.
I have been reading some of your posts & you are all amazing for sharing your stories and advice x
Hi Les18, welcome to the grouo and to the rollercoaster ride that we’ve all experienced or are experiencing. First of all, please let me try and reassure you that it’s par for the course, and okay, to feel anxious and also overwhelmed at times. That doesn’t mean you’re not coping. Secondly, many of us, me included, have found that it uses up too much energy and is just too exhausting trying to “be strong”. When I was working through my own diagnosis, I heard someone say it was better to be pragmatic - ie just to put one foot in front of the other and to focus on getting done what needed to be done. My CNS also gave me some good advice for dealing with anxiety which is to focus on WHAT IS known today, not WHAT IF. It’s not easy and it can require daily work and “refreshing” but I found it helped and still helps. Do you have a predicted grade and stage?
Hi Les18
Welcome to the womb group. I remember when I first had my diagnosis I felt like I was living in a parallel universe. It didn’t feel real and everything felt as though it was completely out of my control. It was very scary. You will feel better once you have had the operation and have got your treatment plan. In the meantime take one day at a time try not to worry about things that may or may not happen focus on the present. You don’t have to feel strong all the time it is a big shock receiving a cancer diagnosis be kind to yourself. Before my operation I cooked and froze some meals to use afterwards which helped me feel more organised. If you need any tips for packing for the op Marmite has a great list …I used it for my packing. This group is filled with lots of lovely ladies who have a wealth of experience to share feel free to ask anything.
