Hi

I just wanted to introduce myself and give you my story so far

I am 60 years old - just - and in January I had a small PMB, I had occasional pelvic pain prior but nothing too consistent

I arranged to see my GP who referred me on the 2 week pathway for TVUS, I have multiple fibroids so had in my head attributed the previous pain and minor bleed to those and thought everything would be signed off and away I go
On the day of my scan the systems were down so the nurse was really working blind as could not get to my previous scan of 5 years ago to compare, but all going well and just as about to finish she said oh I think thats a polyp I will have to take a biopsy and also perform your smear test as due

Fast forward 2 weeks and I get my results - biopsy and smear all fine no abnormal cells found but due to the suspicion of a polyp I would be sent an appointment for outpatient hysteroscopy

My health anxiety by this time is through the roof and come hysteroscopy day I was terrified and in quite a bit of pelvic pain, my anxiety always seems to manifest as pain in this area. Anyway I get into the consulting room and happen to mention I was doing some at home Blood pressure monitoring to see if medication was needed - so they wheeled in the BP machine and lo and behold my BP was 200/90 so procedure cancelled and advised ot seek GPs help with BP. This was all sorted  same day - I have a fantastic GP

I could not face the proceedure and anxiety it causes awake again so asked for GA which was done March 9th and afterwards the surgeon said all looked good, biopsy taken as standard expect results in 4-6 weeks

12 days ago I get a call to book a face to face appointment to review my results - off goes the old anxiety again and the last 12 days have been torture as the person booking the appointment did not mention it was to see a Gynae oncologist i found out when I received the appointment letter a few days later

Fast forward to today i am still hoping its the pesky fibroids as these are tumours and although benign can be dealt with by an oncologist I was not expecting to be told, the biopsy under GA had shown abnormal cells - probably a small cancer and I would need a total hysteroscopy
MRI booked for this coming Friday and chest xray - my MDT meet on a Thursday so have to wait until next Thursday afternoon or Friday to see what stage they think it is, from the biopsy they are looking possibly grade 1 but obviously it is so hard to truly determine just from a small sample. The MRI will also determine if my procedure is totally laproscopic as it does depend how the fibroids lay in my womb and if they will come through vagina

All in all its been a long slog but I am suprisingly calm now, I have a diagnosis, not the one I wanted but hopefully by end of May the surgery will be done and I can start my recovery.

Has anyone else had negative initial tests and then be told there is a cancer and we need to remove your uterus?

I have joined to share my story and my ongoing journey and am happy to connect with others who are going through the same thing or who are coming out the other side

Thank you for reading

  • Welcome ..

Yes affer a PMB I was told during my hysteroscopy back in April 2024 , there was nothing to see nothing to worry about ,  taking biopsy was just procedure etc one week later told over the phone we found something nasty..

    Was told grade 1 ..

July 24 I had total hysterectomy removal of womb , ovaries , fallopian tube , cervix and surrounding tissue ..keyhole surgery .

3 weeks later my cancer was upgraded ..

September I began 23 rounds of external radiotherapy and 2 rounds of Bracktherapy

November I began 4 rounds of Chemotherapy..

I ran the bell in January !

    Getting stonger every day !

Hair is growing back lovely Heart eyes

Its a total shock and seems like a long road ahead ..

But you will get there stay positive , take one day at a time .prepare any questions you would like answered .stay off Google..

  • Yes, I was initially told I had a polyp and apart from that and a thickened lining, all looked fine. Fast forward a couple of weeks and an appointment was arranged with the 'Oncologist' which kind of tipped me off! Thereafter, things moved quite fast and I was at first advised to have a hysterectomy for early stage EC BUT it all came to a grinding halt when they looked at my overall medical history and other conditions.

I am now 6 months into having hormone treatment (no hysterectomy) and it's going well. Now awaiting the results of recent tests - again, but that's par for the course now....I hope things go well for you.

  • Thank you Carriad 1228

    Congratulations on ringing that bell

It is a surreal time, just need to get surgery done but know it will be done soon

I am trying to think back to when my symptoms really started and think it was around September last year as was away on weekend break with friends and suddenly had a horrible bloated feeling and my stomach was upset for a day. No bleeding at this point so thought it was something I had eaten. I then had on off pelvic pain over Christmas but have fibroids so again thought nothing of it

Start of Jan I had a uti, horrible low pelvic pain the works, after taking antibiotics i had a small bleed only when I wiped but enough to see GP.

Thankfully I did, but trying not to worry it has potentially been there since last year and it may be worse when they look closer than thought.

Oncologist did say today the sample revealed cells growing abnormaly but hoping it has been caught early enough to be stage 1

    I hate my anxiety brain

  • Thank you LolaBear

Things sound very positive for you, so pleased to see good news

I am trying to quash my health anxiety as need to be both physically and mentally fit for whats to come

Nothing I can do but put myself in the hands of the specialists

  • Hi Kazeroo

Welcome to the Online Community and the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of endometrial cancer and that it took time to actually be confirmed. I also felt better once I knew what I was dealing with.

It sounds like you shouldn't have too long to wait for your surgery and I hope it goes well for you.

In the meantime if there is anything you need, then you know where we are.

  • If it's stage 1 it grows very slowly. I didn't have any treatment for months after diagnosis due to complex health issues and when they checked again, nothing had changed and it was still contained within the womb. Hopefully yours is in the early stage and even if it isn't, you are in good hands.
