Hrt, spotting

Hi all, I'm hoping someone here in a similar situation might be able to answer some questions.

I've been on continuous hrt patches for about 2 years. My last proper period was mid April 2024. Since then nothing. Until 3 weeks ago when I had a day and a half of red watery followed next day by brown discharge. Enough to wear a pad. It stopped suddenly.  I googled it thinking it may have something to do with hrt but kept reading that I should go to the GP to have it checked out. My mother had womb cancer so I did start to question whether I should actually go to the doctor.

After lots of research I decided to ignore it as I am low risk however,  this morning I had it again. This time much more and more like a period. I was at work and had to go to Boots to get some tampons and pads because it looked like it was gathering pace but by going home time it had diminished to thick brown and now it's pretty much stopped.

In addition to not having any other risk factors I have also learned today that being on hrt reduces my risk even further.

I'd be really grateful to hear from anyone who is experiencing the same.  Thank you Blush

  • My circumstances were very different to yours. I had what was called a “premature menopause” at the age of about 30 and was on HRT without any problems until I was 69 when I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. So when I started with spotting and cramping pains so many years after my menopause, my GP was adamant it needed investigation. My family history was also a factor, my mother having died of Serous Ovarian Cancer at a very young age and then my sister with Endometrial Cancer. With a strong family history of gynaecological cancers both my sister and I were tested for Lynch Syndrome but we were negative. I was told it was just an unfortunate coincidence. However I feel there is a genetic link of some kind and my sister’s three daughters are also of the same opinion. As to the operation and treatment, like you I was terrified but equally I was determined to have whatever treatment was offered. It wasn’t easy but I got through it and so far so good! Try and put your fears to one side and get checked out, whatever the result you won’t regret it. Kind regards
