Hi, I had a hysteroscopy & biopsy appointment today after a pelvic scan last week found thickened womb lining 15mm & "possible polyp & feeder vessel."
Unfortunately the entrance to my womb was completely closed over due to scar tissue so neither procedure was completed, so I have been referred for an MRI instead.
I have had no bleeding or spotting at all, (menopause finished a few years ago,) so the possibility of cancer had never entered my head until the scan result- & only then because I had a text from my GP referring me to the fast track suspected cancer department at the hospital - so I have been in a bit of a daze for the last week.
My question is can the MRI tell if the polyp( if that is what it is) is cancerous ? I got the impression that I am likely to end up having a hysterectomy whatever the outcome..
Thank you
Hi Pisces63.
Sorry to hear your news. My experience wasn’t quite the same as yours. Despite now knowing I had quite a large tumour in my womb, my hysteoscopy and biopsy wasn’t conclusive. I was told they didn’t see anything in womb and biopsy showed pre cancerous cells. At that point they continued with chest X-ray and MRI, which is the approach if they had found cancer. There was enough in my case to suspect there was, so they wanted to continue down that investigation route. MRI for me showed “bits in my womb” GPs words and a prominent but not enlarged lymph node. As result of this I then had a PET scan. It was the PET scan which confirmed the cancer for me. It lit up the tumour in my womb and few stray cells on one of my ovaries.
at the time of being told about the chest X-ray and MRI the doctor explained they wanted to continue down the investigation path so they could rule things in or out.
hope you get MRI appointment soon, think most of us here would say the time of testing and waiting for results is the hardest, and once you know what the position is and there is a plan, it does get easier
