Feel like I am going a bit bonkers waiting for results of biopsy on uterine polyps removed under GA on 5 Feb. I had had PMB which led to ultrasound on 10 January, described as abnormal result ( thickened endometrium and possible polyp, heterogeneous myometrium possibly focal adenomyosis) then followed by hysteroscopy on 28 January which identified 3 uterine polyps but they could not be removed then and there, so sample of endometrial lining taken and told I would need polypectomy under GA. This took place a week later on 5 February.
I have had the first biopsy results from the hysteroscopy which were normal - just still waiting for the polyp results, and for some reason my normally rational brain is refusing to be rational. I keep telling myself it will be fine, the odds are really good and the endometrium result must surely be an encouraging sign - but I am waiting for the post every day with a knot in my stomach!!
Is 'no news good news'?? Would I be likely to have heard quickly if there was anything suspicious? It has been just over 3 weeks. The letter I was given on the 5th said biopsy sent for urgent histopathology.
Any advice or info welcome I feel I am probably worrying unnecessarily but can't seem to stop
Hi Hobbitgirl
The waiting is tough and I remember it well. I hope your results come back very soon.
Time waiting can vary a lot. My biopsy result took around 7 days but my post op pathology took around 3 1/2 weeks- and for those I probably hears a few days early as I kept contacting the hospital.
The time waiting doesn't mean either good or bad news- it is purely how busy the pathology lab is.
It is good that your endometrium has come back clear and this could be a promising sign, although it is possible to have cancer cells contained within a polyp. However if the worst happens and cancer is found in one of the polyps, then it would suggest that any cancer is at the very earliest stage and therefore very treatable.
I hope that the polyp results come back clear and in the next few days. In the meantime do give the Support Line a call if chatting to someone would help.
Good Luck
Jane
Thank you Jane - I appreciate your advice very much x
I had my polyps removed on 7th feb so a couple days after you. I'm the same though I'm checking the post every day in the hope of a letter. I already know I have hyperlasia with atypia so can't help worry the polyps could be something worse.
I'm pretty sure I was told 4 to 6 weeks even though on my paperwork it says the sample was sent off as urgent.
I would definitely take it as a positive sign your endometrium has come back clear although it is very hard to not think the 'what if'.
Stay strong and you can do it
Thank you so much - fingers crossed for you too! It's interesting you were advised 4-6 weeks, I wasn't given any indication of how long it might be at all.
Thanks again
