Hi I was diagnosed 4 days ago with womb cancer following investigations due to post m bleeding . Scan and biopsy followed last week with hysteroscopy and polyp removed which they thought benign. Bit of a shock to get the news that first biopsy detected cancer . Had MRI on Sunday . So now waiting for hospital to contact me . Dreadful weekend , frightened and sad.

  • Really sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Did they suspect cancer at your hysterscopy? What was your endometrial thickness?

  • I virtual hug from me sorry about your diagnosis .

My hysteroscopy and polypectomy it's next week, did you had under general anesthesia? Went home the same day?

  • So sorry for your diagnosis! It is  scary and such a shock when your first told

Try and stay positive and  take one day at a time !

Use this group it's been a great source of information and support!

Stay of Google if you can .

It seems there is no end but you will get there!

    Best Wishes !!

  • No he thought polyp looked benign , endometrial thickness 7mm near polyp but otherwise normal .

  • thankyou had first bit of hysteroscopy with nothing but as so painful I had gas and air for removal of polyp , in and out in about an hour

  • Thankyou and agree re Dr Google that is a definite No No !!

  • Oh bless you, this is what I am worried about, everything looked normal, small fibroid, small cyst on ovary 1.5mm, 4.7mm thickness endo. The consultant assured me everything looked fine, but no guarantees. I am still scared of the biopsy results.

I bet that was a shock after you felt a bit reassured.

    Sending hugs. xx

  • Hi Rethead, it is a shock at first but wanted to share that for me, it does start to feel less impactful as you process the news and some time passes after the shock. MacMillan offered four sessions of talking therapy free of charge .

I had to wait 2.5 weeks to be told the biopsy results were inconclusive so had to repeat ( with Xmas in the way!) ,  so perhaps just hold on to anything that goes smoothly at the moment .

The worse for me is to spend a day alone at home ruminating , so I am going to try and avoid that whilst awaiting more results next week, post hysterectomy and not feel as anti- social which I feelreally doesn’t help?

  • Thankyou  that is really helpful to know . Im taking one day at a time now .  I know I am having a hysterectomy but no date until after MRI analysed. I spoke with my oncology nurse yesterday so that helped . I have to try and get some normality back into daily life as apart from the hospital I’ve hidden myself away at home since I got the news on Friday  I am usually the voice of reason when friends have been through things but it’s very different when it’s happening to yourself as emotions override . I hope your recovery from the op goes well and that it is good news with your results .

  • Hi Rethead

    Welcome to the womb group.

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of cancer. I understand that it is a worrying time but there are lots of lovely ladies on here who will want to offer support, so please do reach out to us.

I think the thing to remember is that early stage endometrial cancer is normally a very treatable cancer.

I will pop a link to some info that may help.

It sounds like you have had the necessary testing and the biopsy will have given a provisional grade of cancer. The MRI is to look at exactly where the cancer is in your body and will give a provisional stage of cancer. I would expect you to have a call from the hospital once the MRI has been looked at, and to be invited in for an appointment to go through treatment. For most ladies, where it is medically possible a hysterectomy is performed. This is done laparoscopically where possible. Mine was in 2022, It was straightforward, I had little pain and went home the next day. I recovered well.

After surgery anything taken away is sent to pathology and tested in detail. My post op results came back around 3 1/2 weeks post surgery. The post op results give a confirmed final stage and grade and it is these, plus some other genetic info/markers that are used to determine whether any follow up treatment is needed. For some ladies the surgery is enough. Others need more treatment.

Having support around you will help greatly but sometimes it can feel easier to talk to people who have been through the same sort of things. If you have any questions, please do ask. We also have the Support Line that you are welcome to call if talking things through would help. I remember the time from diagnosis to seeing the consultant as a time of feeling in limbo and emotions a bit all over the place. Once I had seen the consultant and had a treatment plan, I felt things were a bit more under control.

My own experience was that once the testing was completed and I saw the consultant- things moved forward quickly. In fact I had surgery exactly 4 weeks after my initial bleed. I hope that your MRI can be looked at quickly so that you can find out what is next. In the meantime we are here if you need us.
