Waiting and stressing

I’m diagnosed with uterine cancer told 4-6 weeks to get full hysterectomy. That time is nearly up and I’m still waiting to hear about a date. The waiting is making me more stressed that the diagnosis!!

  • Hiya, the waiting is the worst part! Have you called your CNS (cancer nurse specialist) to chase it at all? Next step would be a pre op assessment appointment. I had my hysterectomy in Jan 2022 and that was 9 weeks post diagnosis.

  • Had my pre op 10 days ago so I was hoping to hear by now Frowning2

it wasn’t encouraging when the nurse taking blood said “this will last for 6 months, if it’s after that you’ll need another pre op”!

  • That’s good that you’ve had it! Did you see my question about contacting your CNS? The nurse who did your preop isn’t a cancer nurse so that was a general observation rather than than specific to cancer surgery.

  • Hi Rerun

I would recommend giving your CNS a call for an update. You could also call your GP and ask them to follow it up. It was my GP who managed to get me in for an appointment and I saw my consultant for the first time on the Friday and had surgery on the following Monday. GP was able to contact the hospital internally and get answers.

  • Yes, I’ll give it another week and then reach out to them

  • Oh wow that was incredibly fast!

  • 4 weeks from initial bleed to surgery. Worth asking your GP if you can not get through to CNS. Hopefully you will hear something soon

  • I started this process last summer, kept getting told it didn’t look like there was anything’sinister’ on scans. Luckily I kept insisting I wanted to know just what the shadows actually were.

  • I had a heavy bleed, out of the blue. Couldn't get seen at GP and in the end went to A+E. That started the process. Scan picked up something. Phoned the next morning by nurse specialist. In for biopsy the following day. At appointment was told CT scan was being booked. Had CT before diagnosis. Nurse specialist pushed for me to be high priority.

I am sorry that you have waited so long- well done for insisting.

  • Another week? Wow, you’re more patient than me! Out of interest, have you connected directly with your CNS since being diagnosed? I was on the phone to mine the same day as I was told, and typically phoned them once or twice a week for a supportive chat, so it was easy for me to include a nudge re my date.
