Waiting for surgery

Hello, I was diagnosed with Stage 1, Grade 1a Endometrioid Adenocarcinoma mid November.  My symptoms really became apparent in August after increasing my HRT in June, i thought it was all related, sore breasts, anxiety and bleeding. I spoke to the doctor and from that point it’s been a series of investigations and procedures followed by diagnosis.

I am told surgery should be all I need, which I am grateful for. I am entering week 6 of an approximate 4-6 week wait for surgery. Christmas was a welcome distraction to a degree, I’ve also had a cold/flu virus thing, so need to be better! but now my thoughts are very much focused on what is to come. I am worried, I try to get on with everything everyday whilst I am waiting, but the wait is excruciating!
I want the surgery but I’m so nervous that something will go wrong and secondly what they find when they go in or send away to histology is different to what was first thought.

I work full time and took a week off last week initially because of the cold/flu thing that I am not quite over yet, but now my GP has signed me off for another two weeks to give me the best chance to rest, recover  and look after myself on the lead up to surgery. I just hope my surgery date comes up soon!

I will be having a browse through the group and I am sure I will find your stories very relatable and helpful, so thank you for sharing xx

  • Hello Hoopsy73

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of endometrial cancer and can remember what a worrying time it was. Your provisional stage and grade sound promising.

It is hard to wait for the surgery date, perhaps you could give them a call to see if there is any news. I suppose in a way it is good because it will give you time to recover from the virus before it goes ahead.

I can understand your worries about having surgery but I think the thing to remember is that although it is a massive thing to cope with from our point of view, for the surgeons it is something they do every day and probably several times. They really will look after you and I just put my trust in them, that they would do what was needed.

It is normal to have the histology sent off after surgery and for me the results came back at around 3 1/2 weeks. Sometimes this can vary between hospitals and the how busy the lab is. The provisional stage and grade can sometimes change but this is normally only slightly, if at all. as the doctors experience and the pre surgical testing usually gives them what they need. For most ladies it is normally pretty accurate.

Hope this helps a bit, if there is anything that you need, please do ask.

    Jane

  • I had my op earlier this year and I remember the wait for the date very clearly. The waiting is the worst thing. I made some enquiries about my date and that made me feel better even if it didn't hurry things along. There's lots of useful posts on this group and it's a great place for support anytime. I found it helped my anxiety as there are questions that come to mind before going into hospital and it's helpful to have support from people who have been there before! Do hope you won't have too long to wait now.
