It’s gone 2 in the morning and sleep is impossible. I’m trying to be brave for the ones I love but I’m so very scared. I had breast cancer 6 years ago and have been taking tamoxifen ever since. Started getting sharp and nagging pains in my abdominal area. Ultrasound shows 17.9mm endometrium with cystic changes, normal size uterus and overies, no fluid. I’ve been referred for suspected endometrial cancer. The NHS app is terrifying, especially in the early hours of the morning!
Hi Catash
It always feels worse in the middle of the night.
Hyperplasia (thickened lining) can in some circumstances be caused by cancer, but there are other reasons. There is also a link with the tamoxifen in ladies who are taking it after breast cancer.
Endometrial Hyperplasia: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
What I would expect to happen with the referral next is that you will be asked to come in for a hysteroscopy and biopsy. A biopsy is the only way of knowing if there is cancer or not.
If it does turn out to be endometrial cancer then if it is caught at an early stage then it is usually very treatable. Most ladies are offered a hysterectomy and this is often done via key hole. Mine was in 2022 and was very straightforward. I had little pain, was in hospital for one night and recovered well. Sometimes the surgery is enough and sometimes some follow up treatment may be advised.
I can understand that this is a very worrying time, but the sooner these tests ate completed, the sooner you will know for sure what you are dealing with. If talking it through would help, then please do give the Support Line a call.
If there is anything you want to ask, please do so. I would suggest staying off Google as it can be inaccurate and scary. Even reading it on the NHS App is not great as it is better to speak to someone to decipher what they actually put on there.
if you click on my name my profile will come up but my treatment was over 2 years ago now and I am doing ok.
