Newly diagnosed and anxious

Hi

I was diagnosed a few weeks ago and still struggling to get my head around it. I’m having a total hysterectomy this week and really don’t know how I feel … numb I suppose is one way of putting it … it still doesn’t feel real. I’m scared of what else they might find when they do the d and c. I’m scared it’s spread because now I’m getting pains in my legs that I never had before. I’m trying to be positive but it’s difficult.

Not the best introduction I’ve made to a new group but I just needed to offload.

  • Hi Sunflower470, welcome to the group and to the emotional roller coaster ride that we’ve all either been on or are on! I was diagnosed in late 2021 and had my op in Jan 2022. If you want to read my story you can click on my name. It’s normal and okay to feel numb, anxious and at times overwhelmed. Could I ask how old you are, and whether you’ve had a hysteroscopy, staging MRI or CT, and what the results were? Have they said whether they’ll try for a laparoscopic or robotic op, or open surgery?

  • Hi MarmiteFan59

I’m 54. I’ve had an MRI but I don’t know the results; consultant will update me when I go in for surgery this week. They’re going to try laparoscopic but I think they’ll end up doing open surgery tbh. I had my gallbladder removed years ago; they tried laparoscopic then but ended up doing open, so I’m expecting that to happen again.

  • Hi Sunflower

Welcome to the Online Community and the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of endometrial cancer and remember what a worrying time it was when I had my diagnosis. I also had times when I felt numb and overwhelmed and at other times I felt ok. It was very up and down really. I did feel better though once I had a plan for treatment and the hysterectomy.

It is natural to worry about any aches and pains and to worry if there is any spread. Hopefully the MRI results will bring answers for you. I know myself once I had the diagnosis I became more aware of my body and became anxious about what it could mean. I think the main thing now is to focus on having the hysterectomy and recovering from it. If you try and focus too much on everything else it can feel too much.

My hysterectomy was straightforward, I had little pain and recovered well from it. i was well looked after by my hospital.
