MRI of pelvic area
Hysteroscopy, biopsy taken
CT scan
What usually happens next?
Hi Diota
For me it was a biopsy in outpatients and a few days later a CT scan.
About a week after the CT I was phoned and given a diagnosis.
After the diagnosis, I had an appointment with the consultant. This was followed by a pre op and then surgery. If there is cancer present the biopsy should give a provisional grade (type) and the scan should give a provisional stage (where the cancer is). After the surgery (for me at about 3 1/2 weeks) I was given a confirmed post op grade and stage. The post op results showed a need for further treatment. I had chemo and radiotherapy. When treatment finished I was seen every 12 weeks for 2 years. I am now on patient led follow up.
It can take a while for the results to all come through and if cancer is present then it goes to a MDT meeting. At my hospital these happen once a week. There can be variations though between hospitals.
