Hi everyone
It's been quite a while since I last posted in here, but the advice and support we received from you all last time was so helpful, and so lovely.
My mum was diagnosed with terminal USC just over 3 years ago. She did amazingly well with the initial treatment of taxol/carbo, keeping her pretty much symptom free until around this time last year. Since then, she's gone through two more rounds of chemo, each one working initially, but with symptoms returning fairly soon. We're now out of treatment options for her.
Ascites is now the main issue she's struggling with. Luckily, It's only affecting her around her abdomen this time (while it affected her lungs mostly the first two times). She's had a permanent drain fitted and currently draining approx. 1l every two days. This is a real relief, but she is struggling with stomach cramps and weight loss.
I'm just wondering whether anyone here might have had any positive experiences of living with and managing ascites. I've seen it talked about quite a bit in other forums, but not so much on the specifics of retaining weight and muscle mass, and reducing cramps.
Any thoughts or experiences on this would be super helpful :)
Thank you for reading ,and thanks in advance. We've all been so grateful for the words and advice we received previously.
Lots of love
Luke x
Hi and welcome back to the forum. I'm so sorry to read about your Mum's ongoing problems with Ascites. It's not something I personally have come across before and perhaps until someone on here responds it might be a good idea to Ask a Nurse (just click on the link I've created). You may need to wait a day or two for a reply as they're very busy at the moment.
I'm so sorry I can't help, sending you and your Mum gentle hugs, Barb xx
