Hi, I'm 10 days post op from Laparotomy with TAH, BSI, infracolic omenectomy, Bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy and Aortic lymph node sampling. The incision starts about an inch above the belly button and goes down to the public bone.
Of course I have swellings but they are all soft apart from a hard lump above the top incision like a small clenched fist.
Has anyone else experienced this post op and if so did it go down on its own or was treatment required?
Hi PicNik I am sorry I have no advice as I didn't experience this from my surgery, but maybe give your CNS a ring to see what she suggests? I hope it goes down soon.
Hugs, Lesley xx
Hi Piknik, does the area feel hot? Is there any redness? Is it hard? I'm asking because last year I had open surgery for a ruptured appendix. After five days in hospital I went home but the scar started to feel "weird". The area was hard and hot. Then I started to get a temperature and it turned out I had a surgical infection and had to go back into hospital for antibiotics for a few days. Keep an eye on everything and if you are at all concerned get it checked out. Actually I'd say just get it checked anyway, if only to set your mind at ease.
Hi PicNik, I totally agree with the advice already been given, any concerns its always best to get checked out it could be nothing or it could be a start of an infection. Definitely worth giving your CNS a call and explaining what your experiencing. I am sorry to hear about your worries after your op and hopefully this can all be resolved very quickly and that you heal up well. I know a few ladies have experienced some post op infections it can happen, i was lucky on that front that my incision was ok apart from the post op bloat and also a pesky stitch that didn’t drop out but was sticking out and getting stuck on clothes which was rather uncomfortable. My consultant had to take it out for me, although he did decide to make me laugh and then I couldn’t keep still it was funny more because he then said try to keep still, actually i think he cracked a joke to relax me because it is a weird sensation when they remove a stitch and of course people react differently ,but it wasn't painful but I suppose it was a bit strange when they are pulling out what they cut, the stitch was bigger then I thought!
Hope you get your answers soon, sending a gentle hug

Hi Jigsaw33, thanks for your reply, the area isn't hot or red. It was there the day after surgery and I mentioned it to the registrar who assisted or performed the op. He just said it was my stomachut I've always been slim and had a flat stomach. I expected swelling of course, but the rest of my tummy is soft swelling and this is just like a small fist has been left in there, hard and shiny an
not reducing. I have my apetite back but can only eat small meals yet and all the plumbing seems to be working apart from medium pain when I pass urine. I rang the ward that I was on last night whic
we were told to do in case of a problem but was surprised when the nurse wasn't interested and told me she would get the assessment team to ring me within an hour. They didn't but I accept it was ev
ing but that was when the ward was at its quietest. I'll ring my CNS today and also try and get a telephone app with my GP when they get released this morning. Love N hugs to you

Hi GBear, thanks for your response, my reply to Jigsaw33 above says it all. I think my stitches are desolvable but I have steristrips the whole length of the wound too. I don't have a temperature budo keep waking up with horrible headaches which I put down to sleeping on my back all night
you're such a great Champion, thanks for always being there. When is your appointment for the kidney/waterworks problem? Love N hugs to you

Hi PicNik,
My only experience with anything like this was my husbands neck after an operation and radiotherapy to it. His neck went like rock and took a long time to soften up. It was just the way it healed up.
I agree with Poppysmum and think you should get it checked by contacting your CNS initially.Don't think you are being a nuisance. I went back to be checked after two days out from hospital, and they were very good with me and on a Saturday morning, too. Good luck xxxxx
PikNik do you think it could be a keloid scar? Have a look at the NHS page about them.
