Does everyone have an MRI?

  • Hi Chrissy72

From my limited knowledge I think MRI & CT scans show different "views" of the problem. I had my MRI first which suggested Stage 1a disease. The consultant was still awaiting the result of the CT scan but nevertheless has arranged the TLH.

  • Hi MrsBJH thank you. I had transviganal scan followed by hysteroscopy.  At first hyperplasia suspected then got the news we all dread.  I could phone my specialist but too frightened of the answers!  Not sure if I had too much info it might make my nerves worse!

  • Hi Chrissy72,

A scan is usual after diagnosis and I think most of us have an MRI scan but  it depends on the hospital and some only do a CT scan.  MRI scans do not use radiation so may be the preferred technique where possible and appropriate. .   I think that in an ideal world, some doctors would like to see both types of scan being done as they show sightly different aspects, but  it's not always possible.  ( Time and resources are limited) I have read here of some people who have chosen CT scans in preference.   The scans are not just to check for spread but also to give the surgeons more information about your innards to help plan the surgery and to decide on the team that  carry it out.     I was not told a stage after my scan but was referred to another hospital for surgery. .
