Hi, just want to know how anyone feels after having a full vulvectomy.  I don't know how to feel or react

  • Hello Lizzy58

My first thought was relief that the cancer had been taken away.  A few months ha later, when I had plucked up the courage to look, with the aid of a mirror, I felt as though my feminine identity had gone and I shed lots of tears.  I feel as k now and resigned to the fact that I am still me.  I don’t think there is a right or wrong way to feel.

  • Thanks for replying, the cancer has been removed, no more treatment needed. Just recovery time now, it's been a scary journey, it's only 4 weeks after surgery, so still healing

  • I'm so glad that you're doing well and that the cancer has been removed.

My journey started November 23 when after having treatment for vaginal thrush it turned out to be cancer.

I had chemoradiation starting February for 5 weeks. Got put in remission in the July.

I then noticed a leison on my pernium which attached to my annus,  I couldn't have chemoradiation again so it was to be an operation. Having ct scans and mris to see if the cancer had spread, which it hadn't.

I went into hospital on the 18th December for major surgery, I had to have a stoma bag for life they removed my rectum and annus,  they removed the tumour,  then the plastic team did their part. I was in hospital 12 days and I'm slowly recovering. The stitches around my pernium burst so I've now got a hole and leaks excess fluid,  I've got district nurses coming daily for dressing.  I was catheterised for 30 days and had it removed but I got a bad uti so I was re catheterised,  hoping next Monday it will come out for good.

I've a designer vagina and buttocks but the best news is THEY GOT ALL THE CANCER

    I've been positive throughout.

Can't wait to be able to sit on my bum lol

  • What a journey you have been on, staying positive gets you through it. I've gone through nothing like you. Prayers for you, stay strong x
