Hi. I am new here. I was diagnosed with Vulval cancer about a month/6 weeks ago. I now have a date for op. I am terrified. Could have been treated by now but I had  heart attack at the end of September so that put op back for a while.

  • Hi  and welcome to the group.

I’ve had a different cancer but noticed your post hadn’t yet had a reply. I’m sorry to see your op has had to be delayed, and hope you are recovering well from your heart attack.

I’ve also had to wait for surgeries and it does seem endless at the time, but this doesn’t normally impact on the outcome. I’ve had my vagina removed as part of a larger surgery so I’m familiar with the fear that you will be feeling about surgery in that area, and it’s very natural to be afraid. Have you had a look in the group for other posts where ladies have had successful surgery? That might help reassure you a little.

I see you have a date for your op now-when is your surgery going to take place? I wish you the best possible outcome when it happens. Take care.

    Sarah xx

  • Hi Lynn

I had surgery for vulval cancer in March this year.  It's not as bad as you think.  Unfortunately, my cancer had spread to the sentinel nodes so I had to have another operation to remove 18 lymph nodes in June.  My advice is to but special cushion  I have a blow up bubble one given to me by my community nurses, moisturise well with something like MooGoo cream all over, this will help if you have radiotherapy.  Be kind to yourself and rest whenever you can.  Your cancer specialist nurse will help you so don't hesitate to ask forbher help.  Mine was amazing and they have direct access to your Consultants.

Any help I can give based on my own experience I'm happy to give.  I hope you've recovered from your heart attack.  Love Sandy xx
