Discharge after treatment

Hello. I am new to the forum. I wonder if anyone has had the same experience as me. I finished my chemo and radiotherapy treatment 10 weeks ago but am still getting vaginal discharge every day.

  • Hi  and welcome to MacMillan and the group.

I had chemoradiation for my cervical cancer spread into my vagina, and discharge is very common after this treatment-it can continue for some time. I had it and still have it despite ultimately having my vagina removed but I’ve been advised that it’s normal by my doctor.

I’d recommend giving your CNS a call just to get some reassurance about it-have you had a check up recently with your consultant? I’d assume you’ll have a scan maybe coming up soon too to check how you’ve responded to treatment? I hope it’s nothing to worry about-I was reassured by my doctor that it was ok, because I was bothered about it too.

  • Thank you Sarah for your prompt response. It it reassuring to hear from you that it is common for discharge to continue for some time after treatment.  I have a PETscan due in about a month’s time and I spoke to m my consultant about 3 weeks ago who didn’t seem to be too concerned, but as this was the initial symptom I had before I was diagnosed it’s of particular concern.  Thank you for the advice, I think I will contact my nurse just to be in the safe side.

  • I can understand why you’re concerned when it was one of your initial symptoms-it was for me too, so I know the worry! It can last for weeks after treatment, but I spoke to my consultant, and later spoke to my gp and neither were concerned at all. I hope it’s the same for you, but make that call to put your mind at rest.
