Hi. I’ve just been fast tracked through the urgent suspected cancer pathway - time from seeing GP to vaginal excision under anaesthetic 13 days. Now I’m on day 18 since the biopsy and still no results. My anxiety is through the roof and I’ve had a permanent headache since the op which I’m sure is tension.
How do others cope with this waiting time? I’m very scared and struggling to deal with it.
Hi JulieLM and welcome to the group.
I think we’d all say the waiting time for results is a very tough time to deal with. Normally results can take 2-3 weeks, but it seems longer for us.
I think you could call up if you haven’t heard anything by the end of this week and ask when you can expect to receive them, and will you get a call, letter or face to face appointment. Different hospitals can do things differently, and at mine, results were always given face to face, which I actually preferred. Others are happy to get a call.
Anxiety can run high while we wait, so it’s good to keep yourself busy and distracted by whatever means you can so you’re not thinking about it all the time. For me, it helped to have a couple of apps on my phone to do Mindfulness or listen to calm music to help me sleep. I also binge watched rubbish tv which just gives you something else to think about.
You’re lucky to have been seen and dealt with so quickly, but I hope you’ll know more soon and let us know how it goes for you. I hope the results are good when you get them.
Sarah xx
So I had some pain and a general feeling of discomfort in my vagina so I went to see my GP. She called I a more senior GP to examine me as she’s felt something and they could feel several what she called palpable lumps on the tight wall of my vagina. She referred me as an urgent suspected cancer patient and I saw a consultant who did a colposcopy. He agreed that it was suspicious and as I’d had cervical cancer many years ago and a hysterectomy he decided to investigate further under anaesthetic. He removed a 5cm mass for analysis but couldn’t remove the other smaller lumps as the area was too large and would take too long to heal. So that’s where I am now - waiting for the results of the biopsy.
I still have the pain and discomfort that I had before so removing the lump hasn’t resolved the problem. I just have to wait and see what they say.
I'm sorry to hear that, I would maybe call tomorrow and just ask for an ETA, very understandable that you're feeling anxious with waiting.
I hope you get your answers soon and a definitive treatment plan.
Keep us updated.
I'm having an exploratory surgery on the 27th, I was diagnosed VAIN 3 after a colposcopy so now having biopsies taken of all the areas to assess a treatment plan too.
Sorry I’ve taken a while to reply - I’ve not been in a good place. It’s been 24 days since the biopsy and there are still no results. I phoned but they just said the path lab had some staffing issues and tests had been outsourced and the results were starting to come back.
I’m beyond fed up now because I still have some pain and discomfort (the original issue that sent me to the GP) and the GP is now saying let’s wait and see what the results are before we deal with it - take paracetamol. I’m not sleeping well because my mind is constantly thinking ‘what if’. It’s driving me mad.
I’m sorry to hear about your VAIN - I do hope your surgery goes well and you get your results quickly.
I apologise for moaning but this is really the only place I can be honest - my family are lovely and supportive but I don’t want them to worry more than they have to so I put on a brave face for them really.
Go ahead and moan, I feel this is exactly what this kind of thing is for.
That is a long time I agree, and your feelings are appropriate for the situation.
I do hope you hear soon for a treatment plan.
Try speaking to a pharmacist see if they can prescribe anything a bit stronger for the pain maybe?
