Hi All,
I have had abnormal smears since 2016 and had cells removed on my cervix that year. Been monitoring since then and unable to get rid of High Risk HPV, I am a diabetic as well so it makes it harder for me to shift it.
Colposcopy in Jan and I have VAIN 3. This has now been sent to a Multi Disciplinary Team to decide the best treatment for me.
Has anyone else had VAIN 3 and it be sent to an MDM to decide treatment? Makes me think there is more too it than just VAIN 3 for an MDM to be needed in my case, as it seems MDMs are for cancer treatments, unless I'm mistaken?
Would love to hear the journeys of others. I have had a browse through previous posts too and see some people have had a hysterectomy for VAIN 3, just wondering what I may be in for! VAIN looks a lot less common than CIN.
Thanks All.
Hi Vmlat and welcome to the group.
I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been diagnosed with VAIN3 and are waiting for a treatment plan. It is very usual for patients to be discussed at a multi disciplinary team meeting, and they are not only about cancer treatments. If samples are removed during biopsies, or during treatment for abnormal cells, all of these cases are discussed at an MDT meeting where the specialists will decide on the most appropriate treatment.
VAIN3 is the highest grade of cell abnormality, but the cells are precancerous, not cancer. CIN is definitely more common than VAIN, so there are more discussions about it in the cervical cancer forum, but it maybe be that others who are reading your post here may be able to add their experience of VAIN and treatment.
It can be helpful to add details of your tests and treatment to your profile information as it can help others replying to you. If you click on someone name, and they have completed their profile information, you will be able to read their stories.
I had cervical cancer, so don’t have the same experience to share but I hope others will come along and post. Do you know when you’ll hear the decision from the mdt? Please keep us posted and let us know how you get on.

Hi Vmlat
How did the MDM go. I had a scc tumor on the back wall of the vagina removed and a radical hysterectomy last August. For me the margins werent great and still had VAIN3 plus it had gone into a sentinel lymph node (which they had removed along with 6 other nodes that were negative). I then VMAT external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy as an adjuvant therapy.
Since the diagnosis I've started eating much more healthily, cut out as much sugar as possible (I was a sugar addict), and I take various natural supplements.
I don't know if you've come across it but I take AHCC supplements for the HPV along with curcumin, Berberine, and Artemisinin after I did some research..I'm 9 weeks post brachytherapy so haven't had any follow up MRI scans yet (one is due in April) but the MRI scan I had in November didnt show any evidence of disease. Not sure if it would detect up VAIN3 though, hence the adjuvant radiotherapy. I know natural remedies aren't for everyone though and obviously we all have unique health issues but I thought I'd share my journey if it helps. Xx
