I finished a 7 week course of radiotherapy, alongside a 5 week course of chemotherapy just before Christmas.
I am now in limbo until my follow up scan and meeting with my consultant - which is some months away.
How do others cope during this worrying period.
Hi Scotslass and welcome to the group.
Well done for getting through the treatment first of all. How are you feeling physically now it’s done? I had pelvic radiotherapy too along with chemo, and this waiting period for follow up is a difficult time. But radiotherapy does continue to work in your body after treatment ends, so that’s the reason for the wait for a scan. It is more likely to produce a reliable result.
I had my scan about 3 months after the end of treatment, and then had a wait for the follow up appointment to discuss the results. It’s difficult not to think about it, and the anxiety is probably felt by every cancer patient, but trying relaxation techniques and distractions, keeping busy, are all that really helped me get through it. You are still recovering from the treatment, so you need to take care of yourself, occupy yourself with things you enjoy and try not to let it dominate your thoughts as it can increase your worry about it. I tried to keep a positive mindset as much as I could, telling myself that the treatment would work and I’d be ok.
Take care and let us know how you get on.

Hi scotslass,
There is a life after cancer group on here that have some good suggestions, which may be useful to you and may take your mind off things. Like Sarah says, take it easy as you will tire quickly.
All the best for the new year and for your results,
A x
Hi sistermoon
Thats a good suggestion and it’s a helpful group to be in. I’ll put the link here so Scotslass can access it directly. Hope you are doing well yourself.

I'm ok thanks Sarah, I think anyway. I'm trying to be sensible about niggles and pains, are they one offs or persistent. Oncology telephone review next week.

Glad to hear you’re doing ok, but I think we all worry about the niggles. I hope your telephone review goes well-I have all my reviews over the phone nowadays on 4 monthly checks.
