Hi I finished radiotherapy brachytherapy and chemo for vaginal and culver cancer 15 months ago and then got the all clear
now I feel back to square one having trouble with my vulva, skin changes and extremely sore, have a appointment with Gynaecologist oncology surgeon within 2 weeks, expecting biopsies again
what is the chance of it being back, terrified as I believe you can’t have radiotherapy twice so if it is it would be surgery
any advice would be appreciated or has anyone been through something similar x
Hi debz64
I’m sorry to read you’re having issues again and I hope your appointment happens quickly. It’s true that you can only have radiotherapy once in the same area, but try not to assume the worst before you see your consultant. Have you been told that you may need surgery if your cancer has returned?
I don’t know what the chances are for you of the cancer returning although the statistics would say it’s most likely to recur in the first 2 years after treatment. My cervical cancer recurred 9 months after my chemoradiation finished and I did have surgery a few months later. I hope it’s not the same for you:fingers crossed you have better news,
Sarah xx
Hi Sarah
thank you for your reply sorry to hear yours came back
my appointment is for 16.04.25 as apparently the oncologist surgeon I have been referred to only has a clinic every other Wednesday and I missed yesterday’s so it’s the first available appointment to see her
the waiting is the worse if I knew what I was dealing with I know I would cope ( it’s a case of having to really isn’t it ) I have seen 2 doctors up to now with this one being my oncologist at the Christie’s and they have both said it doesn’t look like thrush or an infection which is what I was hoping but they are not sure hence the referral xx
Hi debz64
My cancer recurred without me having any symptoms at all, so I was actually glad it was found at a check up.
It was very worrying having to wait for another scan and biopsy to confirm it but at least I knew for sure it was back and then could get a plan. I had been through 32 sessions of radiotherapy already, so I knew that wouldn’t be happening again.
I imagine you will have biopsies done, especially as there’s uncertainty as to what this is but it is better to know for sure, and hopefully it won’t be a recurrence.
Sarah xx
