We only found out three weeks ago that my husband has CUP. No idea where the primary is after extensive testing? He originally went into hospital with acute pneumonia which is when they found the cancer cells within the aspirated fluid from the pericardial sac.
after he recovered from the pneumonia and was sent home he suddenly got a pain in his calf which ended up being a blood clot in his small toe. They said because the clot is in a vein smaller than a hair that there is nothing they can do to stop the pain which is excruciating. He can’t sleep and the morphine based meds make him sick. He’s getting no sleep at all and is fast becoming very depressed. The hospital haven’t really given much support? He starts chemo next week so I’m petrified he won’t be able to cope?? Any advice would be so gratefully received. Thank you
Hi Greenland and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your husband is is excruciating pain and it's no wonder that he's feeling very depressed. I haven't had the same problem as your husband and I'm hoping that as you posted this quite a while ago his hospital team have found a pain relief that he can both tolerate and that does the trick!
Has he spoken to his GP about feeling depressed as they should be able to offer some help? Also, he might find that talking things through with someone on the Macmillan Support Line helpful. If the latter is something that you think might help they are available on 0808 808 0000, every day from 8am to 8pm.
It would be great if you could pop something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
