Hi everyone. Just wanted to say hello as I've just joined this group. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer on 1 April. I've had a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph nodes removal and start chemotherapy on Friday 11 June.

Glad to be part of the group and just wanted to say hello. :-) Very nervous about chemotherapy. I'm going to be cold capping too.

Quick question. Has anyone done cold capping for weekly paclitaxel (18 weeks with every three weeks carboplatin as well)? My oncologist thinks I might find it hard to cold cap every week but I really want to try to keep some of my hair. The other option is docletaxel and carboplatin every three weeks but that is much harsher on the body and hair (but would only be six sessions of cold capping rather than 18). Very interested to know people's experiences!

Thanks so much :-)

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I don't have the experience you're after but I noticed that you hadn't had any replies to your post. Replying to you will 'bump' the post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll hopefully be seen by someone who does.

You might also like to join and post this in the main breast cancer group as it's a lot more active than this one and I'm sure you'll connect with others who have used a cold cap. If this is something that you'd like to do clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi JPiano

Welcome to the group and sorry to hear you’ve been diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

While I won’t say chemo is easy it is doable. Your medical team do all in their power to make you well and to make chemo as easy on you as is possible.

I was diagnosed with Triple Negative last September and had chemo first before having a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph nodes removal. There was still some cancer left in one of my lymph nodes so my oncologist has put me on chemo tablets this time. I did have a CT and a bone scan to make sure there was no spread which there wasn’t.

I didn’t bother with cold capping, I just got my head shaved when my hair started falling out. While it was upsetting at first to lose my hair I soon got used to it and I wore a turban when I went out.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatments.

    Best wishes

  • Hi - I’ve got TNBC and had my first chemo on 14 may (I’m having 4 sessions of EC and then 4 sessions of paclitaxel) I used the cold cap and unfortunately during the last week I’ve lost about 3/4 of my hair. I only wash it once a week and let it dry naturally, combing gently twice a day with a wide tooth comb and it’s just coming away in handfuls. For me I want to try as much as I can to try and keep any of my hair but my sessions are only every 3 weeks, I don’t know if I could do it every week. Hope you get some other opinions  and good luck. Xx

    Hi

I am also going to be doing the weekly chemo like you and would like to use cold cap. Have you made a decision yet? Just wondering how it is going.
