Hello everyone

I had a left Mastectomy two weeks ago and follow up today. Results are x3 tumours, one large and two small. No lymph node involvement. I have been referred to Oncology -does anyone know what the possible treatment will be or for roughly how long? Is there a standard program of treatment or is it variable? Thank you

  • Hi

and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I had a lumpectomy with micro-metastases in one lymph node, so not exactly the same as you. My treatment was chemo followed by radiotherapy, but as treatment plans are tailored to the individual you won't know until you see your oncologist what the MDT has agreed should be yours.

When you have a minute it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hello Latchbrook

Thank you for the message and information I will update my profile.

  • Hi Protaras

I'm Daisy53 one of the Community Champions on this forum.  As you have had triple negative breaast cancer your oncologist may organise for you to have chemo.  If you do have chemo it could be for four to six months.  The decision as to whether you have chemo or not depends on the size of the tumours.  As a general rule any tumour that is 2 cms or over means that you will likely have chemo.

When I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer nearly 5 years ago, I had 8 cycles of chemo first followed by surgery and radiotherapy.  Unfortunately chemo and radiotherapy are the only treatments you can have for triple negative.

Wishing you the best of luck with whatever comes next for you.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you Daisy 53.

  • Hi  and Protaras

I think immunotherapy is also given now as well. When I was diagnosed 3 years ago it was just surgery, chemo and radiotherapy but shortly afterwards immunotherapy was approved for use as well.
