Hi all,
I'm hoping to find people who have been in a similar situation to me.
I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in April 2023. I had 12 weekly sessions of carboplatin, paclitaxol and immunotherapy, the had 4 cycles of EC and immunotherapy every 3 weeks.
My lumpectomy was in October 2023 and in December 2023 I was given and all clear with a complete pathalogical response. I still had radiotherapy and more immunotherapy to prevent a reoccurrence with treatment finishing in July 2024.
In March 2025 I had a mammogram and they found a lump in the scan that turned out to be a tnbc reoccurrence. My CT scan showed no spread and I had a mastectomy in April 2025. They were able to completely remove the tumor and it hadn't spread to my lymph nodes.
Had my oncology appointment today and they have said my situation is rare and there is no treatment protocol for it. My oncologist had chosen a chemo for my that comes with some side effects and a higher risk of a second cancer due to my previous treatment.
I now have to decide whether to have the chemo or no further treatment. If I don't have chemo I have a 72% chance of being here in 10 years compared to 80% if I do have the chemo.
I have no idea what to do for the best. Has anyone else been in this position and what did you do.
Thanks in advance all xx
Hi Sunshine15
I'm Daisy53 one of the Community Champions on this forum. I'm sorry to hear that you had triple negative breast cancer and that you have had a recurrence. I was first diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2020 and in 2023 I was diagnosed with a recurrence after having a CT Scan. I had to have chemo because I got a different breast cancer in my other breast and there was cancer in one of my lymph nodes, that's why I had to have the CT Scan, which was lucky for me otherwise the recurrence wouldn't have been picked up until my next yearly mammogram.
I had very few side effects while on chemo, mostly fatigue.
Wishing you the best of luck whatever you decide to do.
Best wishes
Daisy53
Hi Daisy53,
Thanks for coming back to me and I'm so sorry you had to deal with a different type of breast cancer. It's a truly awful disease.
Glad your side effects were minimal.
I hope your now living your best life.
I'm still not sure what to do but I have some time to consider my options.
Best wishes for the future. xx
I would have the chemo with this type of cancer they cant tell if its gone because it cant be detected until tumour forms which is why its harder to treat even with chemo some cells can still grow chemo will have no effect on them but having chemo is giving you a chance of killing any cells that cant be detected if there is any its just my opinion chemo only treatment that gives us a chance with this cancer
Hi Elaine48,
Thank you for your reply.
I did have the chemo in the end, 4 cycles of TC Chemotherapy. It was tough but got through it, recovering now and praying it doesn't come back.
I hope your well.
Take care xx
Hi Sunshine. Hope you’re doing ok. I was diagnosed with TNBC S2 G3 with similar treatment to you. Had no pathological response to the chemo so continued on oral chemo and Pembro after radiation therapy. Finished main treatment April 2025. Mammogram in June was ok.
I have felt a lump next to my lumpectomy scar and have a mammogram arranged for today. Have you been told a TNBC local reoccurrence is rare?
Hi Darlek,
I'm good thank you. Finished treatment last August so well into my recovery.
I'm so sorry to hear that you've found another lump next to your lumpectomy scar, hold on to the hope that it's nothing to worry about until told otherwise (really hard to do, I know). I struggled with my 2nd diagnosis as I thought I was doing everything I could to keep it at bay.
I had a single mastectomy to my left breast in April 2025 and the surgeon said they got everything and there was no spreading to my lymph nodes and the body CT scan i had was clear.
When I met with my oncologist she did say that a local recurrence of tnbc was rare and there were no treatment protocol for it so she had been struggling to decide what chemotherapy to give me if I wanted it. She decided on TC chemo as it didn't affect the heart.
I had a week to decide if I was going to have the chemo before my 1st round was due to start. It was such a hard decision.
I hope all goes well for you today, my fingers are crossed for you. xx
Thank you for replying. Mammogram done. Now wait for a call to clinic for results. Explained will be a few weeks wait. Trying to keep my mind busy and staying positive
Hi Darlek,
I'm glad that parts done, hopefully they won't make you wait too long for the results (the waiting is the worst part).
Keep positive, I'm hoping you'll have nothing to worry about. My fingers are crossed for you
Stay strong and take care xx
