I have my first session of chemo on Thursday and planning to give the cold cap a try. Any advice for getting me through my first session? Xx
Hi Shinelikeastar. I remember being scared the first time, after the talk on it you couldn't be anything else. I promise you that you will have a good nnurse.Just keep talking to her,she knows you are scared, ask any questions you may have and also talk about anything else that takes your mind away from that moment. You will be surprised with yourself after and proud. You will also find the next time you will cope really well. People take Knitting to do or ipads ,anything that you know will help. Be and think Positive a d you will get through the first time and anymore you need. The coldcap was not for me or a wig so I treated myself to some nice hats. Good luck with it all x
Hello Shinelikeastar,
I agree with 294. Your nurse will be there for you. I used to cry, but that was OK. I couldn't knit as I had to keep my hands warm for the canula so used to read or just look out of the window!! I didn't use the cold cap and didn't get a wig because of covid, but switle the scarf around or went 'naked'!!! Hope all goes well. We do it in our own way and that is fine.
hugs Alison xx
Hi How did it go. I had my first on the same day. I was a bit tired for a couple of days. Then had three days of feeling terrible but I think that was due to really bad constipation. Once that subsided I felt fine again and have done till now. I had a sore mouth and my taste buds went beserk. I'm off for second session tomorrow. When is your next one?
Hello yeah my first session went ok. I’ve been better than I thought I would be….still able to do everyday stuff although I have been completely shattered by teatime! Felt really nauseous for more or less a week afterwards. I’m due my next session a week tomorrow. I hope tomorrow goes well for you. Can I ask did you try the cold cap? I did so hoping it helps in some way. My hair has been ok so far but I think perhaps the next few days is when I would notice? Is your treatment plan fortnightly sessions then? Xx
Hi glad it's going well for you. No cold cap. I just decided it wasn't for me. I have 6 cycles every 21 days.
Did you say your next session is today? If so, good luck hope it goes well xx
Hi yes it is today. I was feeling fine about it last night but then had some sad news that a friend has passed away. I've been up since 5 and am now really tired. Hopefully I can get a nap at the hospital.
Thanks for the well wishes. I will keep you posted.
