Hi All,
I was wondering how people have felt 4 weeks post surgery- I had a total thyroidectomy and level 6 dissection. I have felt more stiff the last week than previously and wondered what had changed and if anyone else has experienced similar, I wondered if it Is as simple as I’m doing more than I was before so it’s my bodies way of letting me know!
Hi Lazodre
I had bilateral neck dissections. 4 weeks is still early in recovery and mine certainly did feel tight and changeable as it healed. Are you still religiously doing your stretches, massage and moisturising? I still have to do them now at 18 months and certainly feel it if I don't. The cold also really affects my neck now and I wear scarves or snoods all the time. I would mention it to your CNS though, just to check.
Best wishes.

Hi K9 Crazy,
im moisturising twice a day and I’ve found some stretches online but I wasn’t advised of any so I’m hoping they’re the right thing. I did mention it to my CNS and she also sent me for some bloods but I haven’t had the results yet due to the Christmas break. I haven’t noticed the cold makes a difference and last week came up in a rash around my neck which I haven’t experienced before that nobody has been able to get to the cause of which was odd. I also have to remind myself that poor posture dies t help either
I had a TT and neck dissection almost 3 years ago. My surgeon (Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge) was very clear about massaging twice daily for 10 minutes - I used Bio oil. She insisted it should be very firm and regular - after all the intention is to break/prevent scar tissue. It felt a bit scary at first (3 weeks after the op) but I did it for about 6 months. There was no mention of exercises.
Thank you- I was just told that I can put a moisturiser or bio oil on and that was all, I read in one hospital leaflet twice a day for 2 minutes but perhaps I’m not doing it for long enough!
