My 82 year old mum has just been diagnosed with stomach cancer and no treatment has been offered. I am absolutely devastated that nothing has been offered. She has copd and a leaking heart valve but is generally in good health, still shopping, cleaning and cooking. I suppose I’m just asking if anyone else has experienced this lack of treatment??? Just feel that after the call we are left just to muddle along, no palliative care discussed at all xx
Hello
My Dad has stage 4 gastric cancer and has also been offered capox, can you share how your Dad has responded to the treatment? I'm so worried about side effects and if it will help ease the symptoms of the tumour
I hope your dad is OK xx
Hi, my dad had 4 treatments which he tolerated very well, he was on a reduced dose of 60%. His only side effect was tiredness the week after his infusion. Unfortunately we have just found out from his midway scan that the treatment is not working for him therefore he will not be continuing with it. Everyone is different and I hope your dad has a positive response. Xx
So sorry to hear this. Will he be offered an alternative treatment xx
She said there was another chemo he could try but it was much more gruesome than capox and she didn’t think it would benefit him. He’s negative for markers so no immunotherapy. He had a stent fitted last week so hopefully he can atleast continue getting the nutrients in. Xx
So sorry to hear. I hope he's comfortable and I hope you are OK xx
It’s still very raw and surreal. I wish you and your dad all the best with his treatment xx
Thank you, I'm very scared of what is about to be one of the hardest journeys. Xx
Sorry to distract from the main post. What is capox palliative chemo, is this “to buy time”.
thanks
Yes, that is the reason my dad had capox, it was a reduced dose of 60% which he tolerated well, didn’t have many side effects, unfortunately for him though his tumour continued to grow. Sadly he passed away in December, 6 months after diagnosis.
