Re-occurring Rodent Ulcer

I was recently diagnosed with a re-occurring rodent ulcer on the cheek of my face.  I was initially advised by my GP, dermatologist specialist, and surgeon that it was “quite small“. It was only when I attended my pre-Op assessment that a new consultant advised the rodent ulcer was aggressive and covered a large area of my face and that scarring after reconstruction would reflect that. I was devastated by the news.  I was told there is a waiting list of 19 weeks for surgery. Depending on the size of the hole left the options suggested where doing a skin graft or creating a larger scar and the skin around. I’m concerned about reconstruction I would love to hear from anyone who has had or is having similar surgery.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I don't have any experience with a recurring rodent ulcer, or basal cell carcinoma (BCC) to give it it's medical name, but I wanted to take the opportunity of welcoming you to the group.

While you're waiting to see if anyone here has had this experience you could use the search facility in the group to look for previous posts mentioning recurring BCC.

As I understand it most BCCs are completely removed on the first excision and do not come back so you've been very unlucky for it to recur.

Let us know when you have your date for your excision.

Thank you for you lovely welcome to the group. I’m very nervous about the operation and was hoping that talking to other members that are going through the same experience as myself would help me. I will let you know when I received my date for the operation.
