I was very grateful to be offered an appointment this Friday to have a BCC (4mm) removed from the top right hand side of my nose by excision and primary closure. The dermatologist was reassuring about the procedure and seems confident there is no need to do a biopsy as he is sure it is a BCC. Since my appointment i have made the mistake of looking at google trying to find some reassuring before and after pictures of this procedure as I understand it will take some time for the scar to improve . There seems to be numerous positive reports and positive photographic evidence for MOH's surgery, but Im really struggling to find ANY posts or photos for the type of surgery I am receiving on my nose. Im beginning to worry that I'm the only person still having this treatment for this part of the face although that seems unlikely as MOH surgery is more time consuming and there doesnt seem to be that many surgeons offering it. Is there anyone else who has had the same treatment on their face and been pleased with the results?
Hi Harlyn and Puckettyboo
Glad to hear that you are both healing well after your surgery. I hope the efudix gets rid of the new area on your nose Puckettyboo. I received the results of my biopsy by letter and thankfully all the BCC was removed so there will be no need for further treatment. I was so relieved to receive this good news but like you continue to feel anxious about the sun and keep checking my skin. My husband, who had red hair and burns easily, continues to be laid back and loves sitting in the sun. He always wears a sun hat and has been better than me at applying sun cream, but I do worry about him and our daughters (both adults now) too!. They all think Im fussing too much! We are going on holiday soon and I have some questions about suncream which Im going to post separately.
I hope your husbands surgery goes well on the 5th, Harlyn.
I also get accused of making too much of it and being over the top. I think if they had surgery on their face they'd think differently.
I'm starting the effudix in a couple of weeks as I'm going away but I'm sure my nose will end up looking red and blistered. I just hope it means I can avoid surgery.
You must be so relieved to have got the all clear
I know it makes me cross as nobody knows what it is like until they have been there and we can assure them it isn't pleasant. Hope you go on ok with the cream. I know someone in Cornwall who used it on her leg and it made it worse to start with but she kept going and it is absolutely fine now, lovely new smooth skin. I am pleased I got the all clear but like you I am looking all the time for lumps and bumps.xx
Thanks Puckettyboo. He went on fine. Nothing like mine, no grafts or flaps. It was just cut out, sent for biopsy and a few stitches. Apparently these horns are an overgrowth of keratin which our nails are made up of. They dont know why they occur, but our Consultant likes to cut them out and see what is underneath. Some dermatologist freeze them, but he doesn't. Has stitches out next week and see him for results in 6 weeks. No pain at all just a couple of paraceramol when he got home and that was it. Thank you for asking, will keep in touch. How are you. He did ask how I was and Roger said better, but still scared of the sun. He said tell her not to be, just apply Factor 50. as the damage has already been done. !! xx
Hi Harlyn
Glad your husband got on ok.
My consultant told me the damage has already been done and to just wear factor 50. I do wonder if it's worth wearing it if the damage has already been done?!
I found it a bit of a worry when he said that and I'm sure it's contributed to me being paranoid about every little thing I get on my skin. It's like I'm just waiting for the next one to show itself
pitty we don't like near one another Puckettyboo as we are so alike. I am forever looking at my skin waiting for the next one to appear and it may never happen. I think having one and both of ours were "nasty" ones makes you more aware of what to look for. Keep me posted how things go for you too xx
Hi Harlyn
Well we live on south east coast but it would be nice if we could have met up for a coffee and chat.
I'll definitely keep in touch. This has been a real lifeline.
Hi Davina, hope things are going well. Just a general question why did you opt for surgery and not Radiotherapy? I am in a dilemma, I have a BCC on the nose and initially I was looking at Radiotherapy but I am concerned with a strong possibility of nose drips going forward. I have now arranged for an appointment with the surgeon to discuss options. But I do have a concern at what the end result will look like!
