Undiagnosed- worried - scared

Hi all (not yet diagnosed nobody else to turn to)

Over 3 weeks ago I noticed that one of my moles had began to itchy and had changed in size called GP who put me on a 2 week referral instantly knew that this was not normal and could be serious. I then  saw dermatologist within a week who took measurements and pictures of said mole and stated the mole needed to come off so they could run tests.

the day had finally come to say goodbye to my sorry little mole, had the puncture surgery yesterday and now waiting for results. As you can imagine I’m worried and feel sick to the pit of my stomach the surgeon stated can take up to 6 weeks to get the results back.

Anybody got any advice how to stop worrying, I had a cancer scare a few years ago and it’s bringing back bad memories of what happened then. Also because the mole is on my foot does anyone know when can I start wearing socks again as during the night my feet get freezing.

sorry for the long post and thank you in advance for any replies.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Waiting for results can be a worrying time and I find that the best way of coping is to fill my time, as much as possible, doing things that I enjoy so that I have less time to spend thinking about the 'what ifs'. Do you have any hobbies or interests that you could indulge in? Lots of people find mindfulness really helpful and clicking here will give you more information if you think this might be something that you're interested in.

I can't help with when you can start wearing socks again, as my moles/lesions, were in a different area of my body, but I'd suggest that you ring your hospital team for clarification.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that this mole just turns out to be a dodgy mole and do come back and let us know how you get on.

  • Hi latchbrook

Thank you so much for your reply will keep you posted when I get the results hopefully no news means good news *fingers crossed* thankfully today has been a warm day so managed to take some well deserved me time been weird having to rest my foot normally I am used to been so active so I do get bored rather easily.

thankfully I’ve managed to download a couple brain trainer games to take my mind of it which have helped as of yet, did you experience any form of pain the day after on the area you had yours removed?

sorry for the questions please tell me to mind my own business if I’m asking too many questions.

    all the best x

  • Hi

When I've had lesions removed I've found the area is a little sore for a few days afterwards but not enough that I've needed to take painkillers. However, I guess a lot depends on whereabouts on your body the excision was and what your pain threshold is like.

I don't want to burst your bubble but I'm afraid that the saying "no news is good news" doesn't apply when waiting for biopsy results. The length of time it takes to get them is purely down to how busy the pathology laboratory is in your area of the country. If they're not busy your results could be back in a couple of weeks but if they're very busy it could be the 6 weeks you've been advised.

In the meantime try not to worry as it won't change the outcome but will spoil the present.
