I have been told that the BCC on my scalp is 2.5cm big and is mixed nodular and infiltrating. The NHS have said they are unlikely to offer Mohs and it will need to be biopsied first (8 weeks) and then wide excision (a further 3-6 months). However I have had this for 4 years (misdiagnosed by GP) and it is clearly large and an aggressive type so I would prefer Mohs and don't want to wait. I have found a good private surgeon but I am worried about wound aftercare.
For those of you who have gone down the private route, could you tell me how you organised the wound care. Did you do that at the same private clinic? I can't get the Mohs done locally so wouldn't want to keep travelling 100 miles each time.
Also, how many visits did you need for wound aftercare? If it's only 3 or 4 I could probably manage it
And did anyone manage to get wound aftercare on the NHS despite having the surgery done privately?
Thanks!
I had a cut down the facial line on the side of your face from side of nose down to just past bottom lip, then a circle about the size of a new penny where they took the cancer out and did the flap and stitches around the base of nostril where it sits on your cheek. They are fading now with massaging bio oil regularly but obviously not quick enough for me. The one down the facil line will just look like a line hopefully the skin flap will settle too. They are such a worry aren't they, but when you speak to people who haven't had them, they brush them off as trivial
I know, everyone says not to worry. NHS said I wouldn't get Mohs as scalp is not a sensitive area - but i have had it for 4 years, it's infiltrating and it's already 2.5 x 3 cm large. Removing it by wide excision in 4 months time is a long time to wait and will result in a larger wound/bald patch, plus waiting for the biopsy and possibly having to go back for more out. I do understand that there are more urgent cases, but it's still a lot of anxiety and disfigurement to deal with.
Hi Phenom. BCC removal by MOHS is tomorrow and the wound could be quite large. Part may be sutured and the rest left open to heal. I am worried about the distance to travel for dressing changes etc. How did you get on with your wound care. Not sure I would trust our local surgery as they misdiagnosed a previous bcc. Hope you are well and having a good Easter.
Hi there I hope your surgery went well. Wound care was variable - how's yours going? I would ask to be seen 2-3 times a week and to keep a close eye on it. If you have any weeping or start feeling tired or getting more pain I would insist on a swab to check for infection. Best of luck! BarleyPondsgirl50%
